When I first start the car it squeeks once a turn opened the bonnet and it's coming from the fan belt cog I think? Or is it the belt? Car done 30k?

I had the exact same problem on my K1 after covering 26k miles. Being under warranty I took it back to the dealer who replaced the belt cover and cam belt and it fixed it, they tried to pass it off as adjust, ment issue first but that didnt fix it, so it had to go back.

If its low miles and the belt is at the correct tighness then I have used a very light coat of thick honey on the inner surface - just a touch though, and it does work. .................................!!

There is no fan belt on these engines as the fans have electric motors. it sounds like it may be your alternator belt that is squealing, it may need tensioning.

You are correct, but most people still use the term 'fan belt' to describe the accessory/snake/alternator belt that most cars have. The only distinction I've seen is when there are two belts, for example one for the accessories and one for the air con.

It was either my sisters 83 Escort or my girlfriends 79 mini that I last saw a proper fan belt!
