Hi all, thinking about getting a stage 1 remap, but do I need a DSG remap too or will a software update be ok?
Opinions please

Stage 1 shouldn’t need a DSG map, however it is does appear to enhance it.

I believe Racingline are still offering both the remap and DSG map at a reduced price when bought together.

So can I confirm with you Damo H you don't need a DSG map if only going having a stage 1

And also dont forget to talk to your insurance company about the mods

I would only use some well-known tuner for doing a custom dyno tune, you can gain as much as possible and be 100% on the safe side with the parameters. Ive heard from one of those guys, that you certainly need a DSG remap along with the tune, as there are torque limiter, and if you are not raising that value your clutches are slipping anywhere over that limit, which ofcourse worn them out soon.

I wouldn't chance it tbh, the DSG clutch packs struggle with any increase in torque, and for the trade off of what it costs for replacing them its simply not worth it.

Also regarding the preferred tuner just cause its expensive doesn't mean its the best !!!

Depends on where you are in the country there is plenty of well known tuners all offering Stage 1 Stage 2 Stage 3 tunes

If you are down South West, Surrey area contact = Littco
Banbury = MRC
If you are East try = JBS in Chesterfield (they have an offer on at the moment)
Manchester way = Unicorn Developments

All of the above are just some of the offering available but are the most recognisable and all are cheaper than Racingline.

If you want to go Stage 1 then Stage 2 and then maybe Stage 3 then the Racingline OEM+ option is superb as it one price, But you are tied into using the products they recommend (with the price tag)

It really does depend on what your end goal is and if you can do further work past stage 1 yourself?

If you want complete drive in drive out Racingline is ideal and the packages they offer are very well tailor made for that market

You should also consider upgrading your tyres as you will need it to keep the power down in my opinion

Yeah 100% agree, expensive doesn't mean best.

I've heard good things about Unicorn, however a tune plus DSG map is still close to £1,000. If you factor in an additional tune for Stage 2, then Racingline can save some money. However Stage 3 gets very expensive still, even with the OEM+ software upgrade being free.

The one thing for RL and Revo, is they'll never give headline figures. But for me it was about piece of mind reliability wise.

One thing I will say though, the back street garages offering tunes for £150 are just asking for trouble haha.

I would add in two other items, Longevity and Customer service.
