Yeah 100% agree, expensive doesn't mean best.

I've heard good things about Unicorn, however a tune plus DSG map is still close to £1,000. If you factor in an additional tune for Stage 2, then Racingline can save some money. However Stage 3 gets very expensive still, even with the OEM+ software upgrade being free.

The one thing for RL and Revo, is they'll never give headline figures. But for me it was about piece of mind reliability wise.

One thing I will say though, the back street garages offering tunes for £150 are just asking for trouble haha.

What about companies like bluefin? They charge around £400 for a Stage 1 tune. Would you recommend steering clear of companies like this?

I can't comment on bluefin, as never used them to be honest.

As for racingline, this is what I said to @Bart300 when he PM'd me my opinion of the Racingline tune:

Damo said:
Let’s be honest, if you ask someone who has a RL map what they think, they’re going to say they love it.

If you ask someone who has a Revo map or an APR map. They’ll say the same. No one who has dropped that kind of money on a map for their car is ever going to say their car is crap.

However what I’ll say is I am very happy with it, however I got the TCU map at the same time.

I was torn between Revo or RL. What pushed me over the edge to choose RL is that they used to be VWR and still link in heavily with VW so they know there stuff.

Do they make headline figures? No, because they build things to be reliable. As do Revo.

Can you get more power possibly cheaper by a custom tune from a local garage. Probably. Would I be as confident in it? God no.

Personally think you can’t go wrong with RL or Revo, but RL pipped it for me. Just look at RL’s latest stage 3 car that’s been abused for days on end. Or mighty car mods and their drag racing again and again of their stage 3 golf.

I started to look for remap about 2 months ago.
I have contacted my local garage and they said that stage 1 is not a problem and they can do it. when I asked about the maps and how they do it, do they tune it on the car or doing any additional checks post remap there was no answer what so ever.
Then I started to look at ABT package but price is horrendous.

then it was Revo and Racingline.
I was lucky enough to have a passenger ride in one of the Racingline cars during Speedmachine event at Silversone.
As they had their display over there I did have a chat about Stage1 and DSG remap at the same time.
They said that if you want to go for stage 1 only there no requirement for this to happen.
Of course you can as this will benefit you if you want more from your car, but this is not necessary.
Like @Damo H said above. Racingline or Revo have worked with VW group for years.

I will be going for Stage 1 Racingline OEM+ within next month or two.
Already contacted approved dealer and had a chat about update. I asked them about DSG as well and they said that of course they can do it but this is customer decision.

The DSG tune is worth it for the other features they can add/remove. Increased revs for launch control, Motorsport limiter etc etc.

Are you talking about 6 or 7 speed. Is there any difference in the way the 7 speed responds to remap.
