not sure if just coincidence, car (170 tdi) was in a week ago for front spring/coil replacement and they also found and replaced a faulty abs censor when doing work. yesterday when driving from a to b (short journey from cold) the engine cut out at a roundabout. started up no probs and was okay on way back and then later so assumed one off. no warning lights or anything. the car has never done this (10 years old) and given just out the garage you do sometimes wonder ...

did same thing today, weirdly at exactly the same place so I'm wondering if it's something happening when engine gets to certain temp? again okay on way back and then journey home.

so, I'll get this checked out obviously. however my question. if the car was to stall when moving, is it safe to restart the engine if in neutral and assuming it restarts, depress clutch, select gear, slowly raise clutch and keep on moving?

or a 100% complete no no?

I have started a car when its moving a few times over the years after stalling or whatever. just press clutch while starting the engine and then away you go.
