Just changed the Track Rod Ends and noticed one side the track rod is slightly bent, so when i took it to get tracked they said that it would need changing as it will only need tracking again after a few months... does that sound right?

If it does need changing, are they easy to change or am i best off letting a garage do it?

Was quoted about £130 for the job including tracking

*sorry meant inner tie rods

Shouldn't be too difficult to swap really, Split the ball joint on the track rod end, Remove the rubber boot off the steering rack and the tie rod should unscrew out the steering rack (Be careful not too put to much strain on the steering rack though) Then once the whole lots off you can clamp the tie rod in a vice and with plenty of oil/wd40 remove the track rod end off the tie rod. More awkward than difficult really.

I went to replace mine and ended up halfway through taking one off, putting it back together again. I split the track rod end, removed the steel clip from the rubber boot to the rod, looked at getting to the inner clip and thought, how the hell do I get to that never mind unscrewing the rod, so thought I would remove the sump guard which didn't help one bit.
Think you should buy or borrow the tubular tool if doing it yourself as I can't see how to slacken the tie rod. It may be because I have a diesel which limits access more than a petrol engine but wouldn't have thought so.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but how much did the garage charge? I'm having trouble removing mine due to access, I was just wondering how long it took the garage?

If they only charged an hours labour then there is hope for me yet!
