Sticky door handle

Recently noticed that every so often my drivers door exterior handle will now stick in the "out" (open door) position and if you are a plonker like me, you don't notice until you try to shut the door from inside only to have the flipping thing bounce back open! lol  If you nudge the handle it will flip back to the closed position without problem and the door will lock normaly.

Anyone else had this?

I know it's probably just a case of squirting some aerosol lube into the mechanism from outside but I can't be bothered to take it back for the dealer to do this if it'll only take me 5mins for a DIY job!

OK the question is what lube would I use? The "old faithful" WD40 I would prefer not to use as it flipping stinks! Don't want the inside of my car smelling like a workshop! ;) Some form of silicone spray lubricant maybe?

It's a very minor issue but I'd like to get it fixed...

Yeah the boot handle on my MK4 Ibiza did that too. Used WD40 on that occasion and the fix lasted about a year before the problem reappeared. Just lubed it again... Didn't mind using WD then as the smell would not really reach the cabin. :)

Who goes round sniffing door handles? Use the red straw applicator and there's no chance of any excess dribbling down the door. Jeez some people love their cars too much. ITS A CAR!!

DUHHH...never thought of that one.... Always just used the straw for my milk shake!!!!!

I do know how to use spray lube! What I don't like is the smell of WD40! Maybe that annoys you, but that certainly doesn't give you the right to rip the piss!

If you don't like what I'm saying, and if my post isn't offensive (if it is, I'm sure an Admin will soon let me know) simply ignore my post! SIMPLES! ;)

Accept that people are different and what might seem trivial to you might not be to the next person.

Nuff said....

Anyway folks...

Just been to the friendly auto factors nearby and they gave me some teflon-based spray lube. Completely odourless, colourless and sticks like hell to surfaces.

Just applied it to the door handles (using the straw, funnily enough) and now no more sticky door handles.

Car smells just the same too! LOL

Thanks for all the constructive, friendly (and funny!) replies! :D
