Hi Guys,
Joined the forum a few months ago when I bought myself a 2003 Ibiza 1.2 petrol, but only getting the chance to post now. And unfortunately, I'm having a little problem that I'm hoping someone might be able to advise on.
About 2 weeks ago, my gear stick started sticking. I brought it to the garage and he checked the oils; all fine. Oiled the gears but that didn't do much good. The garage is a former Seat dealership and being honest, when I mentioned the problem to the mechanic, he seemed a bit baffled as to what it could be.
What's happening is that when the car is in neutral and you move the gear stick left or right, it doesn't pop back into the middle automatically. It's not an issue really until you are driving and changing from 2nd to 3rd and then you have to manually move the gear stick across to under the 3 and then slip it up.
As I've only started driving recently and this is my first car, I know next to nothing about them, but friends who have been driving for years haven't come across this issue before.
I don't know if the problem is minor or major, or indeed if it is even a problem, but I would appreciate any insight that people might have as to what could be causing the sticky gears and what solutions I could try.
Cheers,
Aidan.
