as the title says im looking to get a straight through with a decat and no backbox. also done an egr delete but just wondering if it is gonna be too loud

With no back box it will be silly.
Also you will bring alot more unwanted attenchion to yourself. This will then lead to a vehicle road side check.

If you roll no cat and no backbox it will be illegaly loud and fail mot. best thing is to choose one and get rid of it. I have no backbox and don't get attention from the Bobbys. Tbh even if they pull and do a check they'd find f all wrong with my car so they can look all they like lol. I love the sound of my car with just the backbox cut out. plus on tdi the backbox is mega restrictive so by getting rid helps car drive better. Mufflerectomy ftw.

On a diesel id say no I had a bora pd130 with a turbo back exhaust no boxes no cats passed 2 mots like it also had a road side check and no issues there either
Wasnt anything like a petrol when it comes to noise no drone and only became a little louder when on boost but sounded amazing 1 of best mods I did to my tdi

It will fail an MOT. It requires a visual check of the cat. It will also fail an MOT if it has no back box.
Go check VOSA, or go ask your local MOT station providing there not dodgy.

Not sure if no cat is an MoT fail as I understand a visual check is required only if a vehicle requires to be fitted with a cat to pass an emissions test, and diesels don't currently require a cat to pass what is only a visual smoke test.
I don't think lacking a back box is grounds for failure either. However, if the exhaust was excessively loud vs. standard a tester could fail the car. I gather that's a subjective judgement though as obviously cars differ in the amount (& quality) of noise they produce as standard.

Ok so by the sounds of it having no cat and no backbox is a bad idea. I'll just get rid of the backbox I think
I used to have a mk 4 golf , which I had custom made by a company called custom chrome in Coventry . Asked them to make it as loud as they could get it ( stupid ! Stupid ! Mistake ) . New back box on , and driving home....... Little bit of a rumble ............ By the time I was home , I couldn't hear a thing! Deaf as a door nail! Just starting the car used to set off my neighbours car alarm.

Diesels sound a bit like tractors with straight-through exhausts.
Best to stick with deleting either the cat OR the back box. At the moment no cat is not an MoT failure point on a diesel but the rules could well change in the future, so probably bext to keep the cat and get a short section of cat delete pipe made up to replace it, so the cat could be replaced in future if needed...

Only heard one derv with straight through and it was hideous haha
I've had my backbox removed and mild steel pipe fitted with a tip of my choice at local exhaust specialist, cost like 80 quid, looks so much better (had a downy before for some reason despite being an FR!?) and it gives a nice subtle hum with a pigeon / owl noise when you lift off the accelerator.
Search for Thor Racing's mufflerectomy on Youtube if you haven't already.
