Twice today, I ground the gears when changing from 1st to 2nd. Not an everyday occurance, but it has happened in the past. Nothing to worry about, I thought.

Then about 10 minutes later, following another gear change the pedal only raised back up a few inches when I took my foot off. The biting point stayed in the same place, but the travel on the pedal was over halved.
Paranoid that I was about to lose the use of the clutch, I gingerly drove home.

I got home, and pulled the clutch pedal upwards. It instantly came up to the normal position and stayed there. I did a few presses to check, and each time it came back up to normal.

Got out, checked the fluid level and all was ok.

So I went out for a drive and there was no evidence that there had been a problem.

Anyone else had (or heard of) a similar problem?

I'd like to make sure that any problem is nipped in the bud before it leaves us stranded somewhere inconveniently.

It's a 2001 Leon Cupra btw.

Cheers

Do they have a concentric slave cylinder on your car or just a release bearing? if its a slave cylinder then maybe its faulty if its only bringing the pedal back up half way. Ill have a word at work tomorrow and try and get some answers for you from my boss.

Asked the technical guy at work today about this. He said its either a faulty slave cylinder and its not releasing properly (maybe the seal has gone and is leaking or there is air in the system and may need to be bled again.
