Hi guys,
I have a 1.9Tdi 90hp Ibiza which is going into limp home mode in 4th and especially 5th whilst under load (worse up hills). Stop and switch ignition on and off and everything is ok again.
I took it to a local VW independent specialist for diagnosis and they have advised that the actuator is seized, so I assume this is holding the wastegate closed and causing my issues. They advised that they can normally free them up but to do so would involve taking the turbo off and stripping it down....and they can't always guarantee success. Unfortunately I don't really have the money to pay them to do this, particularly if it might not be successful.
However I'm doing a lot of motorway miles at the moment and it's literally driving me insane, I'm quite handy with a spanner so I was wondering if anyone has any advice as to how to do this myself. Is there a way to fix this with everything still in place, or does the turbo need to come off and is there a guide available for this? And once it's off what's the best way to free it up?
Any comments or help would be greatly appreciated
Cheers,
James
