Right i have a G60 supercharger that i got for peanuts, and it all looks rather simple to hook up comparing it the 1.8 engines that were in the corrado's etc.

I know people have supercharged 16v's before so any advice they can tip in would be great and i'm going to read the threads through shortly but they are nice and long so not got round to that yet.

I have the supercharger, i'm going to need an intercooler and oil feeds, some way of hooking it up to the engine for drive, could an extra pulley and belt be fed off the alternator or similar?

Next thing is would it run fine with the standard ECU for the short term before i can get it chipped to take into account the charger? Its been suggested that it would but not giving the full benefit.

I'm new to this so please be gentle and any big pics to go with words would be good.

Finally my reason for this is that i love the 8v drive with the rod change box and the lighter clutch, i'd just like to up the power a little (150bhp when finnished would be more than enough) but still have a torquey low revving engine.

chipping the ecu won't work - it can't factor in boost and timing control (or bigger injectors)

top tip...never build something you can buy!! VW already made this engine!! (except its a 1.8 but lets ignore that!!) you could pick one up for a lot less cash than supercharging your current engine. my old g60 corrado had 212bhp and nearly 300lb/ft of torque!!

also, the g-lader is very fickle. it needs a rebuild every 40k miles unless totally standard. somebody on here (or E38) had/has a blue mk2 ibiza with g40 engine. you could try that?

Thanks for the input i appreciate it.

I'm not wanting to change the engine as its been well cared for and its a little gem, it looks like i've totally missed the point as regards the ease of fitting a supercharger. So i'll scrap the idea, better to know all this before i start on the actual car!

As for the supercharger i may sell it as its probably worth a bit looking on ebay or maybe i could find a G60 Corrado with a blown one and put it on that relatively cheaply.

I'm missing the 16v a little as you've probably guessed, but they are just no good as a day to day car, they require far too much love and attention. So it looks like i'll have to save up some money and maybe invest in a limited use car for fun in the future.

Cheers

youll soon realise that that charger you picked up for peanuits, is only the tip of the iceburg youll need to charge the engine ;)

amen to that

look at the G60 setup, apart from it bieng a 1.8, there's no difference, could possibly use a G60 ecu on the 2.0 engine, but would be easier to run custom management, like megasquirt, then you gotta lower the compression and so on

keep the supercharger mate, they'll only go up in value as a good condition G-Lader is called for these days.

supercharged cars are no good as dailies lol, require more attention etc than a valver, i've found that out, hence buy a diesel golf

i know how you feel i'm missing the power of my lc but these cars are left better with just small tweeks
i've been looking into turbo/supercharging and even engine swaps and unless you can get a car with a rear end shunt for penuts then it really isn't worth the money
the only other thing i can think of is webbers:idea: :whistle:but then it takes the daily driver out of the car

give me the charger as a spare for my G60! shame u didnt post a while back i had an eaton from a mini just lying around ( as you do )

Just a quick question, it probably says it there somewhere in the post, but how much for a vw g60 supercharged engine. my car has done 154000 and im lookin to make her young and full of life again.

Cheers

wow that a bit, thats more than what i paid for my whole car. cant you buy a referb engine straight from seat for about 2 grand, spose thats not bad once you compare it. so what sort of miles do you get for 800 queen heads.

out of a charger? depends how hard you rag it, and it all honesty the G-Lader, especially the G60 charger is a fragile piece of kit. Eatons, Lysholms, Bahnbrenner, Rtorex etc are much more "abusable" ;)

nah i dont really rag mine i think the way it looks says more bout the car then the louder you can dissapear into the distance. actually im tryin to make mine more quieter been lookin at way but not finding as of yet. i was gonna start at gettin a younger engine. but im sure there are much easier and cheaper ways to start.

haven't been on here in a while haha

the g60 i have in my ibiza was £800 but i had to pay £150 to get the rolling shell trailored!!

I have put mine in a 1.4 which was a mistake straight away! but as it was my first car it was sentimental!

i was lucky to have a decent supercharger, gearbox and loom/ecu come with the engine and everything works fine but have since had to do a rear brake conversion and also change the gear linkage from rod to cable! you may not have this problem though with something over a 1.8 8v

its nearly finished now and im just waiting to have bits done at jabba sport then i can have it as a weekend funcar!

TBH its Feckin well easy todo!! the corrado subframe just bolted right in! so no need for fabrication!

if you have the time, effort, money and know-how to do it! then go for it i say!! it isn't to hard! but if not then just buy a corrado or keep your car as it is!!

will have to update my project thread if i can find it!
