Trying to get my head round this mapping DPF issue.

This is my understanding :

Lots of town driving is supposed to be bad for the DPF.
This is not becuase a lot of soot is produced (becuase you are driving slow) but becuase the DPF doesn't get hot enough to burn the small amount of soot that is produced off.

My question is, seeing as I do a lot of town driving:

If the car is mapped, and you continue to drive around town will extra soot be produced assuming you don't change your driving style? If not, then I can't see the DPF situation being worse once mapped? i.e I currently have no DPF issue despite loads of short journeys.

I would imagine you'd be more likely to get problems in the follwoing situaitons:

1. you boot the car but only for a short journey so the DPF is not hot enough to burn the soot
2. you boot the car continiously on a long jouney but despite the DPF being hot it simply can't keep up with the extra soot the mapping will produce.

I'd be interested to hear what other people think :)

just been talking to them, its comes with 1 year warrant for the car as well, so if a part failure as a result of the remap they will cover you, it is then £50 a year for the remaining 2 years of warranty to have it as well, not bad really?

I am really interested in this, more so because you can switch it back to a standard map.

Has anyone had this on a TFSI?

Cheers

Just put on my TFSI yesterday, so far first imporessions are good but due to lots of traffic around at the time (rush hour) evaluation limited.

Getting a good run in today so will be in a better position to comment.........:)

So what do you think to it MrT?

It's good but not aggressive, plenty usable power and torque is equally as good.

To summarise, if you just want a map and say filter (whatever choice that may be) i would say go Bluefin, Superchips are reputable and they invest a huge amount of time and money in R&d, so the map is extremely good.

However, if you want to continue in mods over and above the norm go Revo, much more versatile and can be upgraded as we all know.

One thing i would say though, i have never experienced a fuel cut whatsoever with the BF and the car just pulls smoothly right up to the red line......every time.............So, i am thinking, no need for a fuel pump upgrade...

As i said before, if you want to continue modding go Revo or CC, if you just want the map and say filter go SC BF, good value for money and now cheaper at £499!

It may be possible (for a fee) that if you do go BF and continue with mods that SC will modify the settings, it may be worth asking before you buy..........

It is indeed a lot. However, if it smooths out the lump then turbo comes in, and allows the car to pull right to limiter it still might be worth it. But, kind of think I'll only go for this if it goes on offer... but I'll wait to hear when eventually someone with an FRTDI takes the plunge and comments on here :)

My FR TDI is remapped, not with superchips though.

Its not a huge difference power wise, though the pull is a lot smoother and more responsive. Up the gears it pulls a lot better too. MPG has improved. Well worth the few hundred £ i paid.
