Evening all,

Im looking it lowering my cupra r, but not 100% sure what to get. Really dont want to spend any more than £400, but wanting a drop in ride height and to up rate the handling (dont want to get into the whole arb discussion! ha) So do I...

A) Spax or equivalent lowering springs and standard shocks (Cheapest option, but worried about the handling)

B) Spring and damping kit (Worried about the ride height not being low enough)

C) Or a lower-end coilover kit (I know the whole buy cheap, buy twice rule of thumb etc)

I would still like to keep doing the occasional track days, but Im longing for the car to be lower, the wheel to arch gap is killing me!

Any light shed on the subject would be a great help,

Cheers all

AP Coilovers are decent for the £400 and should improve both stance and handling.

Avoid SPAX coilovers I have been told that they arnt that great.

So you guys would recommend cheaper coilovers over a set of expensive matched springs/shocks like:
http://www.dpmperformance.co.uk/koni-35mm-ssk-sport-lowering-springs-shocks-suspension-kitbr-leon-1m-cupra-18t-19sdi-19tdi-cupra-19tdi-fr-19tdi-0199-p-3646.html
Or

?

I am mainly looking for improved handling with a slightly better look but not wanting to pay out £1000+ for variant 3 coilovers

If you don't want to go too low then I'd say stick with a good quality springs and shocks kit which is the best all round option.

Damian, would you say the Koni SSKs are the best springs/shocks available for the LCR?

Cheers

Personally I'd say no. Don't get me wrong the SSK kit is really good but I prefer the likes of KW but then I'm not the biggest damping adjustable fan anyway.

Cheers guys,

What are the down sides with just using the standard LCR dampers and uprating the springs? If they are not matched will this have a detremental effect on the overall handelling of the car? Has anyone changed just the springs? If so how has the handling of the car been since? Does lower/harder springs on standard dampers make the ride bouncy?

Lowering springs do wear the standard dampers out quicker and as you say they won't be matched so won't give you as good handling as what a matched springs and shocks set would.

Saying that the H&R springs that are specific for the LCR do seem to match the standard dampers quite well.

Weitec coilovers are brilliant IMO; I use my LCR for motorway miles, b-road trashing and track-work, these coilovers have been fantastic. The only time I notice the poor ride quality it going along really poor roads, when the standard LCR suspension is crashy anyway!

I thought as much, I never really like doing things by half anyway...cheers for your help guys.

Cheers for your help Damian...what's the main difference between the GT and TX wietec coilovers units, bar the price?
