Hi all. I've had my 2005 Altea 2.0TDI Sport for 4 years or so now and every set of front tyres have worn prematurely either on the inner or outer edges. I put a new set on when I purchased the car (on 12000miles Gyr GSD3) then the inner edges went and the tracking was done by a dealer. The next set (Gyr Assmetric) wore out on the inner edge on one side! (bloody dealers adjusted one side only it seems) New tyres (Uni RS2)...The tracking was done again by an independent tyre place (the handling was greatly improved) and the tyres are now on their way out on the outside edges on both sides this time! I recognise that with spirited driving and the weight of the oil burner up front, tyres won't last long (now on 42000miles) however I have seen on some threads over the years Altea owners mentioning poor alignment and tyre wear...

...my question is...does anyone have definitive values for the front geometry that I can take to my tyre guys to use please? Rich.

Explanations relating to the “PR” number appearing on the data sheet.

There are different types of running gear, fitted depending on the engine and the vehicle equipment. Each one is identified by a PR. number.

The PR numbers are determinant for the selection of the specifications of each vehicle.
On the vehicle data sheet, the PR. number is shown for the front axle corresponding to the type of running gear fitted to the vehicle.

The data sheet is found in the spare wheel well and in the “Inspection and maintenance schedule”.

Thanks for the data sheet Viking...let's hope my mechanic's laser has been calibrated!

I use HiQ in Northampton for all my tyre and MOT needs (they are more than happy to fit tyres that I supply). They have a 4 wheel laser alignment system and from my experience with the guy last time he seemed to know what he was doing...I just hope that these figures are correct (i.e SEAT hasn't miscalcuated) and the muppets who built the Altea in the first place got the alignment wrong! Time will tell. Thanks for your response Viking. Rich.

Those are the factory figures. The rear axles had an issue with tyre wear on the inner edges and some modification from standard corrected this. If you have further issues then you could try Wooton Pro Tyres (or Wooton tyre and exhaust as they're sometimes called) they're a franchise of Wheels inmotion. They should be able to sort any issues I reckon.
