Suspension set up - The old VMaxx question?

Will be buying a suspension kit in the next month or so. However I am torn between a VMaxx coilover kit, which i've heard are good for the price (but obviously not the best and some have gone bad within 6 months).
Then theres the possibility I just get fixed height 40/40 weitecs or koni str?

I know coilovers are the way to go, but if fixed height give me the same result (slight drop, stiffer ride) then im thinking for the price get the better quality shocks.

Not bothered about going stupidly low and will be running 14"s.

Thoughts?

I'm not sure where these claims of warranty are coming from as I work for V-Maxx and we rarely see a warranty claim.

V-Maxx are warrantied for 2 years, most spring/shock combos only get a year, and if you're not into messing with the height, you can adjust them to the height you like (unlike springs/shocks) and leave them alone. They'll seize up due to not being cleaned up regularly (same with all coilovers) but that shouldn't bother you.

I didnt mention in my post about warranty's - just that some comments on the web said that after 6 months their V-Maxx shocks were leaking and were heavily corroded. These are comments from people in the US however.

Im not just going by what people on the web say, but Id rather not have to claim on a warranty at all - especially after 6 months (incurring the cost of fitting/re-fitting the suspension etc).

Don't get me wrong, I think V-Maxx offer great value for money and I will probably go for them (although will have to protect from corrosion in some way)

I'd say go for the Weitec 35mm, £265, or 55mm, £285, Ultra GT kit. You'd also get forum discount off those prices.

I have a set of the original PhilJ coilovers (which may or may not be the same as V-Maxx...I'm not sure) and they have lasted me fine

Ride is rather crashy and firm, but ithey do the job and I've had them on for 2 years at least with no problems. Although I've not had to adjust them yet, so they have probably seized up by now even though I covered them in copper grease.

How much did the fitting cost for you?

£60 to a friend, took us hours to get them set up right though!

Garages were quoting anything from an hour per corner to 1 1/2 hours for the lot.

I'm still not convinced that Vmaxx coilovers are any different from the eBay ones.. same colour anodisation on the adjusters and everything..

Phil j's are ta technix, well mine are anyhow but i think them and v maxx are identical.

there a walk in the park to fit to an arosa , a hand full of brave pills and some spanners and you can have it done in an hour and a half and i was a complete novice at it

Guess it all depends on how much you want to spend. I had to change the front shock after MOT and it seemed practical just to change the whole lot. Like you, I wasnt worried about it being stupid low so bought a Pi Kit from F1 in Brighton who gave me a good discount and delivered next day. Took me a while to get the old shocks off the front and after 20 minutes with an angle grinder the job was underway. As long as you have a spring compressor your laughing. Its lowered it by over 40mm and the ride is much smoother than the old suspension for sure and I can always change the springs at a later date if I want to.

Im pretty confident to do it myself, ive changed brakes, suspension before - but although most have said you can just do it yourself, I have moved recently and now do not have the facilities to make it possible i.e. garage/driveway and i have to park in the street.
Due to the location I cant get under the car very easily , or get any tools out there - so to be honest for £120 fitted I think not too bad
