taking a dog in the mk2

Hey guys

I will soon be getting a new puppy, and whilst im allergic to dogs i dont want it in the Leon, but there will be times where it will have to come in the car, i.e when i got to the isle of man for the TT next year. Going to visit friends around the country, and generally longer drives as i despise the other halfs mini.

So, how do you guys put your dogs in the car? on the back seats, in the boot? fold the seats down, cage, harness?

It will be a Beagle, so not the biggest dog in the world, so i'd have thought boot would be adequitly sized.

my first dog (other half has grown up with dogs so shes not bothered about them going in her car) but if its in my car, i want the best of the dog, but also best for me in terms of, being able to clean the car after and not having it jumping around.

I just take the parcel shelf out and it goes in the boot, but mines only a small Dandie Dinmont Terrier!

This is him currently looking very proud of himself on a chair when he should be on the floor!

Boot end of! You can get a rubberised mat I think that sits in the boot. Just in case of any little accidents!

You could also buy a traval dog guard, very easy to fit and good quality..... I may just have one for sale....

Definitely in the boot. I have a Bearded Collie and he fits in no problem.
I have a universal dog guard to stop him jumping into the back seat.
I also have some old carpet covering the floor mainly to stop him sliding around, but also so i don't have to get try and get the dog hairs out of the car carpet.
The only thing i have to clean is the rear window from him pressing his nose up against it.

Well both stink and make a mess of wherever they get put.... lol

I'm not putting up with either too, although the dog in the boot was (at the time) preferable to a brat on the leather...

I have a 36 kilo yellow labrador which I regularly carry in my Supercopa. He wears a harness which restrains him by the seatbelts on the back seat, which is covered by a fitted car seat cover which goes over the seat back and base. This is easily removed to be brushed or cleaned. If you google fitted car seat covers, there are plenty of people who do these and the price isn't too bad, particularly if you have to carry the dog but want to keep the car clean! Keeping him restrained with a harness is good as if I have to brake suddenly, I don't want 36 kilo of dog hitting me on the back of the head!! He soon got used to it and now knows when he has it on he is going out in the car.

I have a plastic boot liner fitted, and if it gets wet sandy dirty etc whip it out and wash with the hose, boot carpet is still very good at 5 year old and dog in every other day Also a Labrador.
One thing to watch when they jump into the boot that their claws don't mark the paint on top of the bumper I usually cover this if I remember.

I'd agree with putting the dog in the boot generally, though never have with any of mine as they'd be to distressed, front foot wheel would be my choice for a small dog.

Thanks for all the replies, and man thats one good sized Lab! ideally, something i can have to take out and clean after every use would be the ideal set up.

only taking a tent, sleeping bag and dog food. Anything else, i.e food will be from burger vans and/or road kill. obviously.

Strip the boot out back to metal, Custom dog cage made that replaces the rear seats, duvet in wheel well.
