Temp sensor in mirror

I think my temp sensor needs replacing as I get the common --/-- reading for outside temp.

Firstly, how do I get into the mirror casing? Is it from underneath?

And does anyone know the part number? Is it used at all on any VW's?

remove the whole mirror bud

door card off, base plate etc etc

Gay! are there any clips that will break on the door card?

i dont know the part number but i read somewhere that you can just remove the glass to change the sensor?!?!?!?! or was someone having me on!

i dont think the door card needs taking off - just take the wing mirror casing off - there are screws underneath it - cut the wire, soldier connections and put everything back - although i had trouble making the case sit flush again so gave up - only a slight gap at the bottom of casing

Just had a look now (playing with the car in the dark is fun ) and you can get to it by taking the casing off.

Is it really a £20 part? For 2 wires, a tiny bit of plastic and the temp bit on the end?
