Temporary Formentor owner - help needed please

Hi folks
I'm a VW Tiguan owner, but it's currently at the dealers after throwing a bunch of errors, and they say the earliest they can look at it is 3rd September!!!!!

Via VW I've been given use of a loan car until it's fixed, and I've been given a Cupra Formentor eHybrid. So far have only driven it home from the hire company, and I have a couple of questions having never driven an hybrid before.

  1. On startup does it always go into electric mode? The battery level appears to be zero (or close to it) and although the car moves off OK and then the ICE kicks in, what happens if the electric battery is completely drained? (it's quite odd pressing the start button and hearing or feeling nothing)!!!!
  2. Does it matter if the hybrid battery is empty or near empty?
  3. Is it just a case of finding a charging outlet at (at a supermarket for example) and plugging it in to top up the battery or do I need a special app?
I do have a manual, but to be honest it's not always clear to me what the answers to the above questions are.

Thanks in advance.

Simon

PS - although I've only done a few miles, it does seem like a nice car, although having to work out all the infotainment and controls after my Tig is a bit weird!

Under normal circumstances the vehicle will enter the "ready" state in electric mode.

Ideally you need to keep some level of charge in the HV battery, you can maintain the level of charge or even add to the level through recuperation whilst driving.

If you want to charge the vehicle at a public charger you just plug it in and follow the instructions on the charger. You'll only need an APP to set charge times, but it does come in handy for other things.

Which software update is your Tiguan waiting on? PV4?

Thanks for this info James.

Ironically since I posted this my VW dealer has rung me and said they’ve ice tied the problem as needing a new separator and that they’re hoping it’ll all be done today.

Initially the dash threw a bunch of errors
- lane assist unavailable
- keep rpm under 4,000
- EPC and engine management lights
- loss of power from standing start or under any acceleration

Initial analysis at roadside suggested an air intake issue but have to assume dealer has done a full check.

Either way, it hopefully render all the above questions moot!

Thanks for taking the time to post an answer

The upper oil separator is a straightforward job with parts readily available. You shouldn't be without your Tiguan for too long.
