Right I have tested the following 3 bulbs over the last few nights to check which is best. They are 3 of the main brands although I know there are loads of other ones like Osram, etc.

The bulbs were tested at pretty much the same light each night (thanks to my outdoor light sensor). I also had a little run around the Lickey Hills at this point to test the distance (not to look for dogging opportunities.............although 3rd car from the left is a winner, near the brown tangly bush):-o

I have 6500k PIAA LED's fitted so you can see those in the top corner of each shot to help you decide

Philips X-Treme 80%

These bulbs are certainly the most 'yellow' but are the clear winners in terms of distance gained. I have driven with these in for about 3 months now and was surprised to see just how well the lit the road compared to the others

Philips Blue Vision 4000k

Certainly didn't have the extra distance of the X-Treme bulbs on the road but did clearly have a better 'white' tint to them compared to the X-Treme bulbs

Ultra Blue 5000k

At a standstill these were the most 'white'. The pics clearly show how effective they were although I wasn't to impressed with night driving with them compared to the mighty X-Tremes, although the left bulb maybe needs re-adjusting a little.

VERDICT

For night driving and that extra bit of vision it has to be the X-Tremes, but for having the coolest set of H7 bulbs in 'ya hood' you can't look past the Ultras, they really did look impressive. The Blue Vision fell either side of the other 2. Not light enough to trouble the X-Tremes and not 'blue' enough to concern the Ultras.

That said i'm just about to order some 6000k HID's, as I still want a bit more........the bulbs are for sale if anyone is interested but only after my HID's have arrived

15.00 delivered for any pair

p.s. I know the garage door needs a paint!

i agree they appear 'whiter'. however, lights are meant to let you see where your going when its dark, and if they dont do that theres no point in them looking just good.

Is it just my cynical mind that thinks they made the standard lights awful to persuade people to buy xenons?

Compared to my last car, the full beams are just terrible.

Moley you say that the night driving was not as good as your X-Tremes, but would you say that they are still superior to the standard fit SEAT ones?

Well they are 5000k and according to the box 50% stronger than standard H7 bulbs. I doubt that, but would imagine that they are stronger than the standard bulbs based on their info not mine.

As I driving them last night and saw a reflection on a parked car and they reflected a blue/white light, which I never had with the Blue Vision

Anyone know what the life of these performance bulbs is vs standard (i.e h7 philips xtreme / nightbreakers)?

I'm considering changing, but would not want to replace them too often.

hi Matt

I had my Ultras 10months and no problems. Mine looked a lot bluer than in the pics as well.

I'm sure these bulbs, certainly the Philips & Osram brands would match a standard bulb and more than likely outperform the length it works
