Iam seriously thinking about selling my cupra. I loveit, but its not exciting enough.

After building a Corsa B C20LET with a couple of friends with phase 3 (309bhp) iam gonna have one myself i think.

Will cost next to nothing compared with tuning the ibiza.

What do you guys think?

its a vauxhall! and you think 309bhp is stable in one fo them?

The LET will be very unreliable compared to your Cupra, the only Vaux engine i would put in a Corsa is the XE, as it it is much much more reliable (but only produces 156 as standard, with no CAT). In order to make the LET stable it will need a complete rebuild and constant upkeep. Get your self over to www.migweb.co.uk and ask a few questions, loads of people on there run LET's in all manor of cars, Nova's Corsa's Astra's Calibra's Cavaliers etc etc.

.

i've googled the above and i'm still none the wiser?2ltr 16v turbo corsa?,apart from looking like a bag of crap,i'd sooner have the same engine in a nova.
BECAUSE I LIKE THE LOOK OF A NOVA!!!!!! did i just say that?

You're just a chav aren't you? :p

But I have to agree that the Nova looks a bit meaner than the fluffy round Corsa.

I agree, the Nova looks much nicer and either the XE or the LET both look more at home in a Nova engine bay. You will also see better performance from an XE'd or LET'd Nova rather than a Corsa too.

A Nova would be quicker as it weighs less yes, but it's a much older car, so trying to find a good shell to begin with isn't easy. Plus a Corsa looks miles better IMO.

A tuned LET engine can be very reliable, but it will need maintaining a lot just like any tuned engine, and the engines are gettin on a bit now, most lumps will have high mileage so if it's not had a rebuild/freshen up then you can expect to have problems. There's plenty of XE/LET powered Corsa's about, motorway monsters, but not so good on the twisties! I'd just just get a daily runner to use as well. :)

The LET we have hust built has the following spec:

2.0 16v c20let turbo engine from cavalier block bored to 2045cc 87mil je forged pistons steel conrods with arp bolts polished, lightened and balanced crank fidanza 3.4kg aluminium flywheel wallace performance modified bearings piper cams 4.5bar fuel pressure regulator eds 8.1 litre front mounted intercooler bailey pitson dump valve 2.5\" exhaust system autosprint worked head with bronze valve guides, wasted stem oversize inlet valves and oversize exhaust valves 1.9mm steel layered head gasket arp cylinder head stud kit sbd oil pump gears and nylon pressure release valve m-tec driveshafts m-tec pas pump mount lee mitchell engine mounts walbro 400bhp fuel pump spal 12\" slimline fan innovate wideband lambda control oil spray bars red silicone boost and vacuum hoses hybrid kkk turbo uprated actuator with eds power spring cone filter eds phase 3 - 309bhp 316lb/ft - 7500rpm rev limit.

So far very reliable, got a 13.5 at 107mph before phase 3 was fitted running approx 230bhp and he has just ordered phase 4.

And as for the Chav remark, i think not. just searching for the best performance per £. The ibiza's are ridiculously expensive to tune although i do love it and in the real world it is fast enough, still haven't made my mind up.

I notice you said that the LET's are cheaper to mod than the Cupra, but i been with Vaux for a very long time now and i'm making the switch to a Cupra for that exact reason, although i found that it costs a lot to get any power out of a Vaux lump. Especially the XE's but i guess the LET would be cheaper to mod as it is already equiped with a turbo.

dont know much about vaux cars but you can get just under 300BHP out of a coupra for around 3K and the car will be newer so should last longer + its built by VW wich cant be bad.

why not just go IHI?

If you do sell i'll buy your Cupra R wheels off you. ;)

IHI costs about £5000. If i had a LET corsa £500 buy's the phase 3 chip which is easy to fit and a instant 309bhp and 300+Ib/ft

Dont get me wrong the cupra is a far better car in my eyes, its a VW after all, but i like fast cars and i just dont have the money to tune the cupra to the spec i would like. I will be hangin on to the cupra for a while yet though, iam just condsidering my options.

Oh and my missus made sure i wouldn't sell the wheels when she curbed one, LOL.

Just had a thought. Dunno if i could cope without aircon, i promised myself when i had the lupo gti i would never have a car again without it. Not looking good for the corsa then.

Just bear in mind that the type of car you would be putting an LET into would be an older type of car, and therefore have its fair share of problems. But on the up side, most XE'd or LET'd Vauxhalls are right little sleepers.

The look on a so called 'sports car' drivers face would be priceless if you absolutely killed him in either a Corsa or Nova.

Have you thought about a newer Vaux turbo (z20LET), as you would have the same tuning options and more reliablity and more than likely in a newer car, just a thought.

Before deciding on a Cupra i was seriously looking at a mk4 Astra SRI Turbo, 200bhp as standard with plenty of tuning options. Only problem is there were only 500 made and so they do hold they're price. An 02 plate will set you back around 7.5k
