Hi all, long time lurker of this forum, almost bought a Cupra a year ago but ended up going for Golf GTI PP, long story, but due to change in circumstances now looking at getting the Cupra, lease deals so much cheaper than what I am currently paying each month.

Just wondered if anyone has any experience with selling their previous cars with Motorway, or any other car buying service, really can't be doing with private sale and all that involves, tyre kickers, countless test drives, stupid offers etc. TIA

Tyre Kickers

Sums up private selling haha! I also am looking at selling my car but I've gone down the approach that I've advertised it, if someone wants it, they can have it, otherwise it will be sold to the dealer when my new one arrives. I have only ever traded my car in, but it is worth going round the various car buying services and seeing what they quote you.

I have had about 5 or 6 different quotes from second hand car dealerships to fleet car buyers. Quotes were ranging between £6k and £8k. However if you bought my car at a dealership you would probably pay somewhere between £9k and £11k. I would have more peice of mind if i sild my car to a dealership because i wouldn't want someone to buy my car and then something go wrong with it that i didnt know about.

Edit: I asked the same question about a year or so ago, and the response was "don't sit in one because as soon as you turn it on and feel the power you will want one". turned out to be true and i should get mine delivered in January.

No personal experience of using a car buying service such as Motorway, but over on golfgtiforum.co.uk, some forum members have used Tootle in the past and had a favourable experience; hassle free sale, and getting more for their car than they could have achieved by part exchanging, selling to the trade, or the likes of We Buy Any Car (WBAC). None of the time wasting tyre kickers to contend with either that you can get if trying to sell privately.

Tootle went into administration a few months ago, and Motorway does seem to get a few mentions as an alternative car buying service now, although I’m not aware of anyone who’ve used Motorway.

I think with any of these car buying services, it’s important to be open and honest about the condition of your vehicle, otherwise you’re likely to end up ultimately getting less for it than a dealer’s initial offer. I’ve a friend who moved overseas and needed to sell their car quickly. They sold to WBAC, who consider every stone chip they found - however minor - as damage, rather than normal wear and tear, and they adjusted the price downwards to reflect this ‘damage’. Of the car buying services, I get the impression that WBAC aren’t particularly generous with their offers, so I wouldn’t be looking to use them.

I sold my GTD to Arnold Clark, they have a 'We buy any car' type thing in some areas.

They ended up giving me £1000 under a private sale but crucially £3/3.5K ish more than my finance termination figure.

Depends on how much they want your car, and being a GTI PP I'm sure they will want it...
