Thinking of trading up

I've had my Mk1 FR TDi for coming up to 2 years now and have been giving consideration to trading up to a mk2.

currently i have an '05 plate FR TDi in platinum grey with 42k motorway miles on the clock, full main dealer history. the car and wheels are unmarked and is in as new (if not better!) condition.

how much would i be looking to get for it? i've got my eye on the MK2 tdi reference sport with aero kit or the FR TDi again, funds permitting. the more i see the mk2 the more im warming to them.

secondly, has anyone else made the switch that could offer advice, either for or against?

According to Parkers.co.uk - but your mileage is obviously a bit higher so you may have to adjust it a little - personally think 11 1/2 is a bit optimistic at trade.

I can't afford a mk2 so have few opinions on the matter...

I can't afford a mk2 either but I have not warmed to the mk2 atall. I really would stick with the mk1 FR as i think they are great cars. To pay the extra for a mk 2 fr?? IMO no way worth it, but if you like the mk2 that much then i guess you gotta do what you gotta do.

I think you will be lucky to get 10.5 to be honest. Im in the same situation, 05 with 43k, same condition etc. Like the MK2, would really like a white 1 but reading threads on here, they get pretty poor full consumption compared to MK1. My tank average is 45-49 (dependant on driving!), the mk2 (from what I have read) tends to struggle to hit 40. That aside though, as not to many would regard that as important, I think it would cost min 7k to trade 2 the FR.

Personally im planning on putting 80k or so on mine before i get rid. (Unless it starts costing me cash) Hopefuly get bout 7-8k for it then ( Private Sale).

I would opt for the FR not the reference though.

The price you'll get will vary depending on the price of the car you're buying, what margins the dealer is working to and what they paid for the car, if it's not brand new.

Personally, I would say forget the part-ex value and look at the bigger picture. If you have your car plus, say, £8k to spend and you're looking at £19k cars, it doesn't matter if the dealer gives you a pound or ten grand for your car, so long as the cash you have to put in suits your budget. They could just as easily discount the new car instead of adding money to your part-ex, so don't get too caught up on the value you're offered
