Hi All,

A few months ago I was very close to selling the Leon to jump on the company car bandwagon and order myself a nice new car. Fast forward a few months, I am still decided against it as not willing to pay the tax etc and it was a salary sacrifice scheme - whereas my Leon is totally paid for so seemed daft jumping back into paying £350 for a car for everything such as Insurance, Finance, Repairs etc.

My wife and I (Yes, newly wed after 3 weeks ago) have decided to keep the Leon for the forseeable. The car is an early 2007, 56 plate with 76,500 miles on the clock. Touch wood the car has been pretty reliable, clutch still feels good and everything still feels pretty much as the day I bought it at 30k.

My question is - what is the highest mileage you've taken your FR to? What problems did you encounter etc?

The Leon will be around for another 3 years AT LEAST and covering 18k a year on it, will mean it's on 120k on it by this point!

Thanks in advance,
Luke

The earlier 1.9 tdi were good for 500k km the later ones the germans keep til around 300k kmbefore moving them on for export to eastern europe. If you look after it theres no reason why it shouldnt see 200 thousand miles. But servicing and pre-emptive maintainance is vital.

Nver had a car over 80k miles, so not an expert, but well cared for, the car should be fine for big miles. 120k isn't so much, just use quality oils and fuels and service the car regularly. Probably what you would do anyway.

My brother in law just bought a 2.5t Mondeo with 122k on it. Just graduated so needed a cheap car, but it is in great shape and seems barely run in! Not the same car, but the same principle.

Its a bit of a lottery really. I've run several cars to well over 100k with no major issues, all have been serviced regularly and most of the miles are motorways ( regular runs to Scotland , yearly ones to Spain ) however if journeys are stop start local this may give rise to more problems. One of the highest mileage cars I ran was a Citroen C5 2.0 HDi, did 155k in 3 years and was free of any major faults, I then changed jobs and inherited a Mazda 6 diesel which did 120k and had two major engine rebuilds and various other work during that time. Japanese reliability............

I too am worried about mileage as my commute to work is longer than ever, even though its only 20-25 miles each way I'm putting about 1000 miles on every 3 weeks so will hit 100k in no time. I did want to try an keep it below that before selling.

The FR is on 79k now by the way.

Having said that my 2003 A3 TDI sport is on 177+ and is still strong.

Thanks all for that.

Most of my journey are long ones (Like recent trip to Inverness, 380 miles each way) but then I do use it for a work too which is about 15 miles each way (40% Town, 60% National Speed Limit Roads).

Car is serviced on the dot and always on the dot....mainly oil changes, everything else major has been done such as cambelt, fluids, gearbox oil and so on - but I always ensure the oil/filter is changed regardless.

Mines just clicked over 150k and runs perfectly. Had a new clutch and gearbox last year before i bought it though. Gearbox went on a trackday and clutch was put in to sell as he previously had an organic one on there

Feels like it will go forever and pulls like a train

My wife's Fabia vRS 130 pd did 170k in 10 years from new and still went like stink. My Octy vRS 1.8t 20V had 130K when I sold and it drove like new. My current FR170PD has 103k and feels like new. I am the second owner and it has been looked after.

Jimbo

Original turbo yes. New clutch went in at around 130k, i assume gearbox was done somewhere between 120k & 130k

Just hit 118,000 the other day on my 08 plate. Not a single groan or grumble. It's been SEAT serviced from new, mainly used for motorway journeys for commuting to work (I know the guy I bought my 170 off) 50 mile round trip.

My 07 FR has Just ticked over 117k and hasn't really caused me any trouble at all, the only thing I could say bad about it is it has gained a few rattles over the miles lol
