Thoughts on servicing not at seat????

As above really, have been thinking about getting my servicing done at a specialist instead, with all genuine seat parts thus keeping the warranty.....


What's people thoughts on this as i don't really think i would care if i was buying a second hand one as long as the warranty still stood, maybe even more desirable as the specialist would take better care of the car!!!

You will get a cheaper and better job at an independent for sure but for warranty claims nothing beats a dealer service record Seat will always pay up, I just think of dealer servicing as insurance.......

I took my Leon to an independent from New, and still had warranty work done at Seat Dealer without any problem.

Id never take my own car to a dealer, you hear so many stories, mainly bad.

Votex in Congleton will get my VAG business all day.

Just had mine serviced agt an independant follwoed by warranty work a week later and they didn't blonk an eyelid.

As for residuals I had such low offers at PX quotes recently then I thought WTF not spending loads more money getting the S badge on the service book for nothing.

Mine was serviced recently by Volkswagen Main Dealer as it was the best part of £100 cheaper than the local SEAT stealer.

The only other advantage of main dealer service is sometimes they will offer a goodwill gesture if something goes wrong outside warranty, whereas they won't if you go elsewhere for servicing.

As long as its done by a VAT registered garage & using approved parts, they can not refuse to honour any warranty claim at the main dealer network.

Exactly right. Despite being a dealer parts manager, I have no issues recommending some independents. All SEAT parts purchased 'over the counter' have an any-dealer 24 month unlimited mileage warranty. If your car is still under SEAT warranty, use genuine bits, get it done properly and you are sorted. Fully documented proof of servicing is the key

Same here and i'm on 64k now...never had a problem getting the warranty issues sorted (up until the 60k anyway!)

VW dealer has quoted me £109 for 10k/1st yr service, closest seat dealer wants £150. Easiest (closest to work) wants £175

What if your service garage does not use Seat Approved Parts, but Parts that live up to all current Quality, Health and Safety Regs?

I need a warranty job doing at the moment, and my garage does not use Seat parts (we are talking about an Air, Fuel Filter) and the Seat Dealer is insisting its our of warranty

I paid £230.00 for a 10k service on my Ibiza FR Diesal, and will never go back to a main dealer for servicing again. I had the 20k one done elsewhere.

The job that needs doing is in relation to a split hose split due to rubbing on the spring clip on the hose underneath has started leaking coolant, i hope it has not caused any permanent damage.

3 issues here -
1) SEAT will probably argue that the rubbing is either due to the last person servicing the car, or that it would have been picked up by them before damage was done if they had done its 20k.
2) A rubbing clip is not a manufacturing fault, its classed as an adjustment by SEAT therefore not warranty.
3) There is a huge legal debate over non-genuine parts. Each party will have their own argument and it gets very messy. You usually end up stuck in the middle getting nowhere.
These arent necessarily my own opinions by the way, but I would say its madness not to use VAG parts when they are so cheap and readily available. It avoids a lot of grief as you are finding out

I tried a Skoda garage near mine to get my old Golf MKIV MOT'd there with the thought of getting the cambelt changed at a later visit.

Anyway to cut a long story short, my Golf needed a new rear brake caliper and guess what driving home my brakes hardly worked. The muppets had not bled the brakes.

I thought if the Skoda garage makes mistakes like that, then I dont want them changing a cambelt. In the end I took my Golf back to the usual VW garage for the cambelt renewal.

The main savings would have been the cheaper labour rate.

I'm shocked to hear that a VW dealer is cheaper than a Seat dealer. I will keep this in mind.

My Cupra still has two free services left on the service plan which I opted for when I bought the car back in December '07. So I suppose that's saved me a few pennies and encouraged me to keep the car longer.

Had my 10k at VW which was 90 quid cheaper than Seat BUT they put the wrong oil in.......didnt realise it had a DPF !!!

Good job i asked what oil they used.............
