Having been the victim of a car theft through burglary to get the keys (car out of sight in a locked garage with perimeter lighting) - note if you have a UVPC external door on your house with a protruding door lock barrel that doesn't have a BSI number stamped on it (so an anti-snap barrel) you are as vulnerable as I was. MoleGrips on the end of the barrel, quick twist, the barrel snaps and they are in - yup easy as that.
Mark McCann's latest video Confronting car thieves - YouTube is sobering, my car ended up in a chop shop and parts of it were for sale on Ebay by the end of the week so maybe I'm a bit more paranoid over this topic. The Police raided the breaker that had some of the parts for sale, procrastinated for over two years even though they had signed statements to say the parts were from my car and never charged the perp. In the video the scum, little more than kids had videos on TikTok of cars they had nicked including a Cupra - looked green, maybe a Leon or Formentor by the interior.
I have a Terramar now, not a common car on the roads by any means, the exact opposite in fact and yet take a look on Ebay and there are used body parts for sale - really?? So I have to assume they are being stolen too. I have a steering wheel lock, more of a deterrent, encourage them to look elsewhere for an easier target, pondering adding another layer of security and having an Autowatch Ghost fitted. I've had one in the past and it was a bit of a faff going through the button sequence every time you wanted to move the car - is there anything that's easier to live with??
