When switching on the ignition no dash lights come on, does turn over but fails to start.

I'm guessing it could be a relay / fuse anyone confirm and which one?

You have power in the battery but the dash panel isn't coming on. I suspect that none of the vehicle electronics are getting power, so it won't start. There are several relays involved in supplying power to the electronics and I'm not familiar at all with the Toledo 3 so can't really help determine which one it is.

Thanks for the reply, I can't even find the leon electrical schematic so have printed a golf V one and will check tonight if anything matches

Then its going to be a case of buying and replacing every relay

I don't know if VCDS will help to locate a faulty power relay, but it might be worth posting in the VAG-Com forum to see if anyone in your area is willing to help. The Altea/Toledo platform is Can-bus, so you'll need someone with full VCDS - the Lite version doesn't do Can-bus.

Might be worth asking in the Altea forums too, as you share their platform.

There are two panels with potentially relevant relays, in the dash area.

One relay panel with nine relay positions on it, you're interested in position 2, - Terminal 50 voltage supply relay -J682- (433) It should have the number 433 on its can.

1 - Not used
2 - Terminal 50 voltage supply relay -J682- (433)
3 - Not used
4 - Fuel pump relay -J17- (449) - Heated windscreen relay -J47- (404)
5 - Not used
6 - Not used
7 - Headlight washer system relay -J39- (53)
8 - Not used
9 - Not used
D - Window lifter single fuse - S37 (30A)

A second carrier is associated with the vehicle voltage control unit. The postions on this one appear to be labelled, from the diagrams. Positions B1, B4 and B9 might be relevant

B1 - Voltage supply relay -2-, terminal 15 - J681 (460)
B2 - Heated exterior mirror relay - J99 (449)
B3 - Not used
B4 - Voltage supply relay -2-, terminal 30 - J689 (449)
B5 - Heated rear window relay -J9- (53)
B6 - Dual tone horn relay - J4 (449)
B7 - Double washer pump relay -1- J729 (404)
B8 - Double washer pump relay -2- J730 (404)
B9 - X contact relief relay - J59 (460)

Tryed swapping the 460 and 449 relays around, no difference. Will have to buy another 433 as there is only one, not sure it's this as reference to the starter is on some threads.

Will try to get the vagcom connected, hope its not the ecu thats blown...

You could try listening to the relays when the ignition is switched on to see if they click, or touching each one in turn to try and feel the contacts going over.

From what I can see there are also some electronics in the power supply control unit, which I assume is the circuit board with all the Bnn relays on it. It's possible that something in there has failed. VCDS should be able to diagnose faults in the electronics.
