alrite mate start yourself off with an air filter and backbox exhaust. iv got the same car and i have drilled the airbox rather than buy a filter! sounds just as good but dont think you get a power gain out of it! and backboxes are fairly cheap just all depends on how far you wanna go with it!

Right where to start
You could go and get your head skimmed two notch head gasket and get it gas flowed gas flowed not sure if you can get bigger valves maybe someone else can answer that question, well get up rated valves and valve seats triple cut the valve seats, put some cams on,
As above not sure what exhaust will fit your car but power flow should be ok. Do the panel type air filter and drill the air box..
You could go to the extent of putting some bike carbs on or throttle bodies on. Look up bogg brothers a think thats the name there pretty good at doing that sort of stuff.
Also you’ve got to think about a decent suspension set up, good spring and damper setup, some anti roll bars, strut braces to sort the handling along with some decent tyres i.e. Toyo proxies get a thumbs up from me
You’ll need uprated brakes like the valvers brakes
Really its up to you how much you want to do, am sure there are plenty of things i have missed out, as there are so many possibilities. Chris Adam is supercharging his 1.8 16v have a look

It'll probably work out cheaper for you, in performance per £££ terms, to ditch the 1.6 and drop the 2.0 16v ABF in its place.
Budget for brakes (280mm set up found on the Mk2 Ibiza Valvers are also on the Golf G60 and GTi 16v and the Corrado)

A was going to add in get a valver or drop in a bigger engine but i was being nice to the guy. Thought if he wants to be different then good on the guy, i wouldnt mind trying that but its too much work for such a little engine. i will be going down the same route as roly and martin when funds apply. OH i wasnt specific on what needs to be done and what parts to use, just giving you an idea of how much work is involved

I have the majority of the parts, but not much cash at the minute.
I was hoping for the end of Jan, but now perhaps March is a more realistic deadline for me to complete!

I know the feeling of not having much cash mines ids just back from the bodyshop all dents sorted and some smooting off parts here and there with a full respray and a new grill.
Im on the hunt for some decent wheels as we know then a decent suspension set up and bigger brakes.
Then hopefully 1.8turbo conversion by next year

I looked into 1.8T conversion but it's so damn expensive and I'm not prepared to get into debt over a £2,000 car! Haha
Can't agree with the boys more you should always start tuning a car starting with the tyres as ultimately they control the cars performance over anything, you'll be amazed at the difference a really good set of tyres will make to the performance.
Personally I'd sell the 1.6 and get a Cupra then you can spend your first year doing the handling and stopping upgrades while you build an NCD in a much quicker car for probably around the same insurance cost as a modded 1.6!!

I had a 130bhp 1.6 corsa a little while ago. I wish i had just saved all the money i spent
