Hey Ravi,

I changed my turbo a few months back and from reading things online and by going through the process I managed to figure out what goes where and how to remove/refit it all.

I can help on a few bits, a braided oil feed will be great, you'll need to remove that threaded bit sticking out of the top of the turbo though as that's not needed with a braided hose and banjo bolts.

The exhaust studs and bolts are m8 from what I remember, but your best bet is to look at what is on your current turbo and then fit the same.

You won't need studs or bolts for the manifold, the old nuts go back on and old intake manifold bolts go back in.

Oil return is a tight fit and nearly broke me but does go in with a bit of persuasion. I got mine off a website called veedubmachine.

And the 2 studs in the bottom picture are for the heat shield to protect the TIP.

Have a go at removing everything you can minus the turbo at some point before you go for it properly (EGR, TIP, downpipe) so you have an idea of what's what and then take your time with it and give yourself at least a full weekend to get it done.

Good luck :)

awesome! cheers buddy, when you fitted the new one did you change the oil and i think youre meant to put a bit of oil in the feed pipe or something arent you? oh and the studs for the egr what size do you recon they are? M8 as well?

No worries mate, I hope that all made sense and helps you out!

Yeah I changed the oil, you also need to use a syringe to fill the turbo housing before you bolt the new feed on. Then you have to unplug the injector loom and crank the engine several times for intervals of about 10 seconds. It sounds harsh when you do it but it's to allow the oil pump to prime the turbo feed before you start the engine. Have a double check on tdiclub or similar though for the exact procedure. And I think they're the same size but the EGR side is all threaded and uses hex bolts.

thanks buddy, i just had a thought ive got a blanking plate for the EGR but i cant remember if it needed a gasket? i think it was just where it connected onto the valve but thats gone now. dont suppose you remember do you?

Which side is the blanking plate going on? It'll need a gasket either way just to make sure there's a good seal, especially on the exhaust manifold or EGR cooler if it's still in place, as otherwise you'll have power/limp mode issues.

Ask me how I know... :p
