I may just be overly paranoid and there may be nothing wrong with my car, but I'd like to ask the question anyway to see what you guys think.
A few days ago I notice a different sound coming from my car, kinda the sound you get when your exhaust starts blowing. It only happens when the turbo kicks in under load, I can't get it to do it when at a standstill. It doesn't sound overly bad, and from reading other posts both here and random forums whilst searching google, some people say there turbo has been sounding like it for 10k and still works fine so may be nothing to worry about.
It's kind of a growling sound, rather that the whoosh you hear as the turbo takes over it is now a growling sound. I've read apparently if it makes a whining sound like police cars in the distance it's on it's way out but it doesn't make that sound.
I'm at work now and a friend in work says maybe I have a hole in my turbo or the boost pipe? I'm not loosing any boost pressure as far as I can tell but I don't have a boost gauge so I'm only saying this based on it still feels as powerful as before.
I did consider maybe the exhaust was blowing and I am only hearing it when the turbo spools up because of the extra pressure or whatever that is having to be pushed out of the exhaust but I put a rag in front of the exhausts to test if there was a hole and I can't hear anything unusual.
Any ideas?
