Turbo problems... AGAIN

OK I know this is the standard Tdi Turbo issue... it's getting out of hand on mine at the moment, stick your foot to the floor in anything above 4th gear and I might as well flip a coin to see if it goes into limp home mode.

Pull over, restart and it's fine. I thought it was only when i was really cold but it's happening more regularly now. Had a chap remove the turbo and clean it out with some unpleasant looking turbo cleaner but made no difference.

What's the next step? Any recommendations in Leicester area of where to get it looked at?

Well I've just had a new turbo from seat for £1712 but you could get a new turbo fitted for around £600-700 supplied and fitted

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKKK.

I'm going to have to cross my fingers and hope mine doesn't go.

I've been living with the exact same problem for 2 years!

I have been told that it is going into limp mode because of an overboost due to sticky vains in the turbo. Apparently cleaning out the turbo is supposed to sort it out in most cases but I havent yet had the chance to have it done.

A the moment I have a 3rd party odb2 scanner plugged in and as soon as it goes into limp mode I clear the errors and away we go. This is obviously a work around! :)

Like your thinking... Had my turbo cleaned and made no difference. Problem is its intermittent which is easily the most annoying kind of fault on anything! How much was your scanner thing?

I nearly fell to the floor when they said £1712 for one. Good job seat are paying 70% and the dealer I bought it from are paying £200 towards what I have to pay.

Hiya mate, the one i got was a very basic one. Universal Maxiscan ODB2, I think its called you'll see loads of ebay.

It will only read/clear engine codes, for anything else you will need something a bit more advanced!

Would it be worth chucking a new boost controller solenoid on it for £40? I would always start with the cheap replacements first

I'll bear that in mind, know nothing about turbos really so have no awareness of the component parts that can potentially go wrong. Have a feeling the turbo needs taking to bits and fully cleaning out, the last guy that did it didn't remove it just ran the cleaning product through it.
