As I've said before -- They're illegal as by law you're not meant to leave a car unnattended whilst running.
Just don't hammer it up to your front door, give it 5 min to cool down off boost at low revs, does the same job.

Infact it does a better job as you have cool air running through the car, as leaving it to tick over for 5 mins just warms everything up. Drive it sensible for 2 mins and then let it tick for 30 secs if your really that bothered.
agree with above. With modern engines and oils dont think its as nesessary as in the 90's with yours RST etc.
^^^ Again I've heard that's true Freddie. With modern oils there isn't as much of a tendancy for the oil to "coke" in the turbo c/w older oils from the 80's-90's which if you switched off a hot turbo car would turn to carbon in the turbo and circulate around blocking oil galleries.

it runs for 10 mins however I dont agree it cools it properly, the oil in the turbo is still hot and is what would cause the most damage (from my limited knowledge) so yes the water will help cool it will however not cool the hot oil. *

IMO the secondery waterpump is a great move by VAG to improve turbo life.. but as trCido says I'm not sure it does the job completly...
Personally I just take it easy when 3 miles from the bat cave then let it idle for 3 / 4 mins while getting out of the car... unless I have been REALLY ragging it, then I might let it go for 5 - 10 mins.
I used to have a TT on my punto, was a good move I think and it does look trick but nowadays I'm getting old and don't mid taking my time getting out of the car.

Why do you need the revcounter wire? Should it not have 4 wires, 1 from the switched ignition, 1 from perminent live, 1 for ground (these 3 are normaly taken from the ignition barrel) and one going to the handbrake switch.
For most turbo timers you can get a wiring harnes so it all just plugs in, the only wire that needs connecting up is the handbrake wire.
so i take it your not running your standard alarm? If you were you cant have a turbo timer due to when u remove the key the immobiliser arms 
Oh and its not so much about cooling the turbo temperature wise.. Its more to do with the fact that your turbo will max out at 230K rpm~

I've been told by several sources that turbo timers are illegal anyway -- As it's illegal to leave a car unattended whilst running.
Also it's a bit of a myth from the days of mineral and semi-synth oils that you needed to let them cool all the way back down before shutting off a turbo car. They were more prone to coking in the hot turbo and the particles clogging oil galleries. Modern fully synthetic oils are designed not too so there shouldn't be the problem. I agree with the oil pump not circulating the oil around the turbo when shutting off but where do you draw the line? The turbo is always spooling, even from the first start you may not have sufficient pressure if that's the case?

honestly you dont need one, just drive sensibly when your coming to the end of your journey, and dont rev the nuts off it when you pull up then immediately key off!
the impellor will slow to a stop within a few seconds of keying off anyway and sitting at idle without blipping the throttle for 20 seconds (after the sensible 2 mins of driveing!) should be sufficient as a slowing and cooling period
turbo timers are a waste of time and money imo, but each to their own and all that!
