........................thought the whole idea of the turbo timer was to keep the engine ticking over for a minute or so, AFTER you walk away from the car and lock the doors, so that it allows the Turbo to de-spool and cool sufficiently before switching off, helping evaporate any oil vapour that might still be present?

However agree, allowing the car to warm up for a few mins before setting off means you can start booting it as soon as you drive off down the road (as by then the system/Turbo is sufficiently warmed << but thats more a feature a number of alarms are capable of, and the odd new car. :D

...then you need Proximity sensors! ;)
Has them on my old car - If some1 stepped too close to the car or actually brushed past it, the sensors would let out a couple of audible peeps - to warn them, stay back!

But if this happened say 2 or 3 times within a minute it would believe they were messing with the car and then sets off the alarm!

...but the car doesnt then turn into a Transformer and kill them!

you can have a turbo timer programed into the alarm mate so you will have the warm up froma touch of a button from awarm bed and the most important warm down when you fixing an evening bru!!!

vertually all alarms as STANDARD dont have button start and exterior sensors they are added extras and add about £250 to the annitial bill :wtf:

might be worth checking with insurers too. read somewhere that as the car is running even though it might be locked it could cause issues ... worth checking.

thought about doing it with the leon but few seem to have tried... and fitting it around the current immobiser i bet wont be easy..

good luck

...wouldnt be good for me as the car would be out there "warming up" for a ages (from me getting out of bed) while i had a shower, dressed, food, bit of TV, more food.......................... :D

This makes sense - warming down. Turbocharger would appreciate the engine idling for a minute or two before switching off. Also allows to fully de-spool.

Went for the full monty with my (previous) car security - paid out for the proximity sensors, the lot.

However the best security feature I fitted to that car had to be the Snap-Off steering wheel! It wasnt being driven anywhere without a wheel! :)

I'm pretty sure that turbo timers are illegal. Something along the lines of leaving a running vehicle unattended.

They are. This has been discussed before and someone gave the legal jargon as to why. Be worth checking out.

No reason to have one really. Driving easily for the last 5mins of your journey does a good job and then letting it sit for 30 secs before switching the engine off.

Illegal and why bother.. a diesel turbo runs a good bit cooler than a petrol turbo so should be even more resistant to coking the bearings (static oil turns solid deposits).. and they are all pretty much water cooled now so again coking does not happen. They are a hang over from the old days of non water cooled petrol turbos where you could get red/white hot turbos and shut down.

Had one on last car, rarely used it .. always found driving off full boast for last 15-20 secs was enough for over 60k miles on a hard used petrol... and if on tracks then a slow coast up/down car park is far better... gets the heat out far more effectively than cooking on the spot.

Now illegal unattended running on frosty mornings I can see... move to the country ;-) .. no need then to worry.

What he said, unless your running mahosive turbo's, or mahosive boost. Also's diesels need not apply, the turbo doesnt get as hot as petrols as far as I know.

i still feel im in need of 1 as my car drives horrible when stone cold needs a good 5-6mins warming up to run normal

i personaly would benifit!

but as said before on standard turbo drive off boost for the last 1-2 miles then let tick over for 40 seconds or so. diesels just pull up and turn off
