The internal ultrasound alarm and car movement alarm can be temporary turned off so as to prevent the alarm going off if a pet is locked in the car or for the use on a ferry crossing where the ships movement would cause the alarm to sound. The 2016 versions of the Ateca Manual shows a non existent button in the car that caused confusion, this is now edited out.
The process is explained in the November 2017 version of the manual, page 133:
The anti-theft security system can be switch-
ed off each time the vehicle is locked:
● Turn the key a second time to the lock posi-
tion, in the door lock, within two seconds. If
necessary, remove the protective cover on
the driver door handle ››› page 15 or
● Press the button on the remote control
key for a second time within 2 seconds.
The flashing frequency of the diode in the
door sill immediately confirms the process.
Initially, the diode flashes in a fast sequence
for a brief period, then it stops for approxi-
mately 30 seconds and, lastly continues
flashing slowly.
The latter is the best option if using the remote control / Kessy, first option is for cars without Kessy. You can also manually turn in the mirrors and then do the two clicks... the prefered ferry crossing process.
There is a further alternative of turning the safelock system off via the Car Menu completely, page 136 of the November 2017 Manual:
Deactivating the vehicle interior moni-
toring and anti-tow system*
When the vehicle is locked, the alarm will be
triggered if movements are detected in the
interior (e.g. by animals) or if the vehicle's in-
clination is changed (e.g. during transport).
You can prevent the alarm from being trig-
gered accidentally by switching off the vehi-
cle interior monitoring and/or tow-away pro-
tection.
● To switch off the interior monitoring and
tow-away protection, switch off the ignition
and, using the Infotainment system, select:
CAR button > SETTINGS function button > Open-
ing and closing > Central locking > Switch off
alarm.
● When the vehicle is locked now, the vehicle
interior monitoring and the tow-away protec-
tion are switched off until the next time the
door is opened.
