on my cupra i have oz t's 205/45/16 would there be any benifit or point in changing the tyres to 205/40/16??
cheers

Slightly lower profile, but you'll also put your speedo/odometer out slightly due to changing the rolling radius of your wheel/tyre - don't think it'll be much out with that change, but it will be out so something to consider

what he said. mine are 17s and have a 40 profile.

however, IIRC the 40/45/50 etc is a percentage of the width of the tyre. So a wide 16" could have the same %age as a narrow 17 and therefore have more sidewall

I think

i put 195/40/16's on mine, was far to low, and speedo was out by nearly 10mph, not good, plus didnt handle any where near as good,

not even sure why yours has 205's on it, i'm sure it should be 195's

40/45/50 is the distance between the wheel and the road (or outside of the tyre tread) it it the depth not the width. changing the depth of tyre affects the circumference of the outside edge of the wheel and thus affects speed. if you lower the depth of the tyre then you need to make the wheel larger and vice-versa to keep the same distance on the circumference of the tyre.

check here for the correct size if you decide to change width/depth of tyre or wheel size.

make sure though your original size of wheel tyre combination is correct in the first place.

He has a cupra R, So the SuperT's came with 205's wheels. I have them on mine but i have 195 tyres stretched on them for that all important 'curved' sidewall!!;) Makes handling a bit of a pig tho...

i thought the r rims were still 7" wide? i'm running 7" wide rims on 195's and there spot on, 205 would make the tyre too wide and would get too much movement in the tyre around corners

SuperT's are wider than the original cupra wheels - Ithink they are 7J. 205/45/16 tyres for them. As toxic said changing to 40 depth changes the circumference and so will put speedo out and I would imagine not be too comfortable either.

..........

Mat's right. 40/45/50 is a % - profile - it's a % of the width of the tyre. So 225/40 tyres would be 225 x 40% = 90mm tall.

thanks for all the replys people, was jus wondering!! but i think ill keep the original 45mm size
cheers

the speedo would be out so little you wouldnt even notice, the only difference between 40 & 45 profile will be the ride comfort less tyre wall = harder ride slighly better handling due to less flex in the tyre wall

mine was about 10 mph, when i chnaged to 40 tyre wall, thats a fair bit to be honest, ride was hardly any different, just didnt handle as well as 45's

alot worse, honestly, wouldnt lie, i'll never ever change the tyre wall again

The superT's are defo wider than the original Cupra wheels, but the profile doesn't matter as they are both 16". Mines lowered about 55mm so having the 195 tyres allows less rubbing on full lock due to a more curved wall.

How much different is the handling??
can you still give it some stick??
only asking as i fitted some coilovers yesterday, there not set up properly yet its approx 20mm lower and its scrubs round slight left hand corners at speed! :D

so was wondering if 195's would be better for me?
cheers
