hi,

I was wondering if anybody else is having the same problems as me. I have just picked up a 97 ibiza 8v. gti

The main problems i'm having......

Uneven brake wear, the inside of each pad is hardly worn yet the outside pads are cracked and worn badly. The cylinders have been checked and seem to be fine. I've heard it may be a common fault

On full lock, when mostly when reversing there is a really bad creaking and some metal on metal grinding, occasionally happens on full lock moving forward. not the power steering pump.

Also, i have been looking for some extra parts for the car, but dont know how to find out what engine kw my car is for the tyre pressures, what the engine code is for the spark plugs and if it is a siemens or bosche for an induction kit, where can i find out this please?

Any help is much appreciated

hi mate, err i've looked in my haynes manual and doesn't seem to be any explanation for the brake problem? have you checked you have no small stones or objects trapped between the brake discs and shields? the shields could have been bent on to the brake disc as well? or the brake pad or shoe friction lining material might be worn down to the metal backing? but can't see why it only does it when on full lock?!?!?
as for the induction kit, what are you looking to replace it with?

the wear on the pads is actually even in relation to each side, i have taken the pads off and checked the pistons, everything seems ok. no visible signs of anything wrong, its the uneven wear on the outside and inside of each pad that is confusing becasue it is on both sides of the car, not just one of the calipers.

i was looking at putting on an induction kit, possibly either a k&n or greenstuff. i had a look here http://www.carismastyle.co.uk/cgi-bin/ac_catalog/commerce.cgi?product=AIR_FILTERS!SEAT

but there are 2 different kinds available for the car, one for a siemens system, the other for a bosch?

check that the sliders are working ok.. might be seized, meaning that you'll get uneven wear

remove the calliper, and then then sliders should come out of the carrier....... if they don't 'move' then their seized..... bit of WD40 should free them up....

when you re-assemble everything, make sure you use plenty of heat resistant grease when you insert the sliders back into the carrier......

well i've got a k&N 57i and don't remeber having any trouble with which one to go for, prob best to go into a local performance shop and they'll have the right one listed for the exact model, so thats probably the easiest way, i'm quite sure its siemens though, but wouldn't be 100%

oh dear god.....last night, driving down a dual carriageway, doing about 70, same kn*b pulled out in front of me. hammered on the brakes, next thing i know the car jerks to the right, evens up, jerks again, i come off the brakes, back on, same thing, the front end is wiggling about like j-lo's ass in a bikini. on the other side of the road.

after i slowed down i tested the brakes a few times, as soon as i jam them on the cars viciously pulls to the right every time, but then exactly the same, gets wrenched back and forward.

next thing...got a couple of guys i know from a detailing forum to look at my paintwork, dodgy faded doros, roof and bumper, telling me i need a respray, the paint has faded below the clear coat.

does anybody have a spare kiwi yellow gti looking for a transplant? lol

mate you should just take it in the local dealer! yes it will cost! but they know what there doing!
so might be worth taking it in, if you really want to restore anyway! what a bummer  :banghead:
