my fabia RS seems to have got upset at the cold weather...

In the past its had a problem (mainly when cold) with the turbo VNT blades sticking.. causing limp mode and charge pressure control: negative deviation (turbo not providing enough boost because the blades stay closed)

but today.. pretty cold morning, bout -4:
start car as normal.. wait 30 seconds or so then drive off gently.. as normal, engine is always a bit flat and rattly when its cold..

start to drive to work, up a slight incline... car starts to pull and then i felt it go into limp mode... i thought nothing of it, next set of traffic lights i stopped engine and restarted (normally clears it) but it didnt, and the engine check light came on.

so i plugged vagcom in when i got to work and got these codes:

17965 - charge pressure control - positive deviation

so the usual overboost fault code... nothing to be worried about!

18000 - Altitude sensor / Boost pressure sensor: implausable correlation

this one is whats getting me.. i cant clear it either. anyone know what it means/causes etc?

i had a look at the values reported in vagcom.. and the atmos and boost sensor show the same values.... so no problem there

i have a suspision it may be the MAF??? with the ignition on and the engine not running vagcom was showing 1250 for the maf? whats it suppost to be?

anyway any help/advice would be greatfully recived.. a 0-60 time of 40 seconds in limp mode is driving me nuts!

boost pressure sensor sounds like MAP sensor problems...located on back of intercooler, never heard of one of these failing tho ,

Thing is the MAP sensor is reading correctly... in-line with the atmos sensor.
its not showing as intermittant and the fault does not change so dont think it is the MAP sensor.

the scary thing is the atmospheric sensor is mounted in the ecu... and my car is 2000 miles out of warranty

I got the same boost pressure when I was using the wrong thrust sensor with my newly converted car - pd100 sensor in pd130 system = no boost. My first suspicion points to thrust sensor as already mentioned. (especially if it went into limp mode straight away with CEL on)

If that doesn't help, then sorry. :D

im with the MAP boost sensor, they can fail.

After further testing.. im beginning to suspect that.

went out earlier, and i had partial boost over 3krpm and lots of smoke... then when engine stopped and re-started, back into limp mode.

logging the charge pressure system shows that the map sensor value always stays the same as the atmos value, even on full bore and testing the n75 (can hear turbo spin up)

Even out of warranty, might be worth mentioning it to dealer, look for some "goodwill" out of skoda \ dealer?

well technically my cars not been in warranty for about 50k miles..

i stopped getting it serviced at the "local" skoda dealer @ 30k because they were questioning the mods... and i definately doubt they will do anything about the map sensor as its been moved to go into the fmic pipework.

Does the Vrs use the same N75/N18 valve as the Ibiza or are they separate? Just a thought as I had this probelm with my Ibiza and went through the ellimination process of MAP/MAF and N75/N18. In the end it was the mapping and carbon build up on the vanes. I still have these 3 parts in the garage if they're of any use

sounds more and more like the sensor alright.

Yes the N75/N18 are together in a magic box on the fabia..

i have a occasional problem with my sooted up turbo vanes.
i know they both work because of the tests on vagcom..

Cant remember but is the MAP sensor a B or C type. Just trying to help out as I could send the parts out to elliminate the components.
