Hmmmm. I remember when I had erratic boosting and clouds of smoke with my pd100 - Was a failed ECU. :eek: (why have I used a Briskoda smiley on here!?? :D) But that was doing well odd things, like it would have no power low down, throw out a cloud of jet black smoke covering the car behind me, and then suddenly surge with power. Swapping back to my other standard ECU at the time cured it (but obviously had 100bhp again)

I'm pretty sure the map sensor will cure it - but this is the first time I've heard of one failing. If ever I see one appear on fleabay I'll get one as spares. :)

Col - Its when it start making the most awful of tractor like noise before belching out the smoke you want to worry. ;)

You have the right part number and I had the same thrust sensor part description fun with my stealer as well. Boost sensor? We have no boost sensor! Well I bloody hope you do! Thrust sensor sounds more like some kind tool used on an adult film set. :D

Update::::

It was the MAP sensor...
.
changed it out today (cleverly tried to do it thru the wheelarch and have cut my arms to ribbons lol but its running really well now, so the sensor has probably been faulty for a while now!

Hang on, does this mean I diagnosed from a fault code, a problem, backed someone else up who'd already suggested the remedy, and I was RIGHT?! :blink: :blink: K'in hell! :wtf: :cartman:

But its good to hear its running well. You'll have to take me for a spin in it at WSM meet - I'll make sure the DMF is in your car by then, to weigh you down. :p

**update**

Car is running well... i think better than it was before, altho i was driving a 1.2 clio for a week in-between..

one thing that is really strange, it seems to have taken a new thirst in diesel.. my mpg has dropped about 10mpg!

on a "spirited cruise" down the motorway circa 90(km officer) id usually get 46-52mpg but last night i got 35 :blink:

and on half tank so far my average for it has dropped from 46-48 and is currently 42. :cry:

the car smokes less too now (i think)

Could it be possible for 1 sensor to make so much difference? can a MAP sensor be broken but not really show any faults?

dunno if it helps, but when i was having problems similar to this, everything was pointing to the maf, so got the garage to put a new one on. even then it was just as bad but vagcom kept pointing to the maf, my car was doing the whole 0-60 in 40 seconds.

i know my car is different being the 110 so it has separate N75/N18 but it was just a leak on one of the valves, just needed cleaning and reconnecting and it now works a treat.

maybe you could try cleaning them and keeping as spares if you bought a new one?
