I'll let the picture do the talking...

Turns out someone stopped their car at the top of the carpark to put something in the bin. The electronic handbrake failed and the car rolled down a decline. Missed every other car and smashed into mine. 2014 Freelander.

Not even 3,500 miles on the clock. Just my luck.

:wtf:

Oh no, are the internals damaged too?

Sent from my Elephone P8000 using Tapatalk

Not that I can see. Definitely front bumper, fog lights, all grills/plastics, bonnet and parking sensors. Headlights seem to be ok and all clips intact which is lucky.

The car was pushed back into the rear wall - the rear bumper is scuffed but not cracked, who knows about internal damage. But it's been pushed a good 2 foot, with the handbrake on and in gear; so it's had a good whack. I don;t think any serious damage has occurred, but with these kind of things, who knows. I doubt it's bent or anything.

That's one hell of a scenario to be in, you'll never park at the bottom of a multistory ramp again!

Feel for you mate time to pick a bodyshop

fecking electronic handbrakes, i really don't get it. are we really that physically unable and/or lazy these days?

i guess someone will say its safer if its automatic rather than depending on someone remembering to put it on.
IMO if you cant do things like that dont drive.

PS i've said it before, i get flamed usually, but leave your car in gear...

PS, thinking about it, - i bet the handbrake didn't fail, they probably got used to forgetting about it, but in this case they got out leaving the car running...?

hope you get it all sorted out. but speaking of luck, why park off center in the space, i know there is a wall there but when you return to find door dinks....

Did you get the other persons details?

Yes, luckily he left them with the concierge! By the time I realised what had happened the chap had gone. I called him and the insurance had already been notified on his side. Luckily, all very clear cut.

It's my designated space and took me 6 months to get it. Problem is, it's not at the bottom it's half way. I just park next to a little store room, believe it or not, it's a decent space. Bad luck really, a few feet in either direct and it would have either hit the store room or the car next to me.

Yeah, I think he's nipped out of the car in rush, flicked the handbrake switch but didn't actually engage it - I don't think it's failed at all.

I park off center, well; the spaces are stupid tight and parked the way I am in that picture is as close as I can get to the wall without my door hitting it on the 1st latch. The chap who parks next to me has an unused bike space next to him, so he shifts along. He's very careful so I have nothing to worry about in that respect. Only out of control cars!

Either way, my car gets picked up tomorrow and is going to an approved bodyshop which only uses genuine parts, repairs to the manufactures spec and is lifetime guaranteed (which doesn;t affect my Seat bodywork warranty). I have a courtesy car already (A Nissan Juke of all things!).

All things considered things are going pretty smooth.

some of these cars have auto handbrake that comes on when you stop

but like most things the ecu has to be satisfied with certain things like if the seat belt is on etc if not then it won't work!

maybe he unclipped his belt before it engaged!

hope its all sorted and with no fuss

Why not park straight in so your passenger side is as close as possible and you can easily get out? That's what I do when I have to park at my local train station every morning, sometimes there's only about 2-3cm from my passenger side and the wall

I know it's not really your concern anyway, I'm glad everything is going smoothly!

Ok chaps, need your advice. Car is only 6 months old, covered 3,500 miles so retaining my OE Seat UK Warranty is preferencial..

As it stands the cars in an "approved bodyshop". But I've found out the approved bodyshop, isn't Seat UK approved but BS10125 Kite Mark Approved. Apparently on the original phone call with the insurance company when I asked if this will affect my new cars warranty and the insurers said no it's an approved bodyshop, they were refereeing to this BS Mark approval. According to them, I should have been more specific in my request. I'm no expert in the field so my terminology could have been incorrect but the context of my warranty question should have been pretty obvious, I can't help but feel they are screwing me on a technicality.

Anyway, the crux of the matter is: Seat UK have reiterated unless the car is sent to a Seat UK bodyshop, warranty may be affected. The insurers are saying the BS Mark approval means it won't affect my manufacturer warranty. I'm inclined to believe Seat UK, after all, they are the ones who will be honouring the warranty should I have to claim a few years down the line.

The insurers have stated the car is half way through the repair already so to simply put; the car isn't going anywhere for the time being. I've said I won't accept a repair which voids any manufacturer warranty and they shouldn't continue until the dispute is settled. The insurers are stating they need some type of proof (letter) from Seat UK advising the warranty stance in order for the car to go elsewhere, which I've requested. A massive headache.

Can anyone confirm if this BS kite Mark means my Seat Warranty will affected or not? I'm reluctant to lose my Seat Warranty.

If SEAT UK say no, then I guess that's the answer - but without it in writing, you may be left in the lurch..

Sounds sensible.

MrP did you activate SEAT's Ensurance? Details are here. It's free if you have comprehensive insurance and includes...
"A guarantee that your vehicle will be repaired by a SEAT Insurance approved repairer using only genuine SEAT parts and paints".

Erm.. I think so! Bit late now though!

For future reference, how does that work?

You deal with ensurance and they'll get it arranged all through a vw approved body shop. I used it for my last car which had rear quarter damage... The repair was invisible to me. My current car unfortunately appears to have had a repair by a team of monkeys and I'm currently in a battle to get an explanation as to how it ended up on the approved used scheme!

Ah that would ruin anyone’s day! Someone bashed my wing mirror in after about 6 weeks of ownership from brand new and drove off like a *****. At least you had someone honest who left their details.

Bit of an update...

I received the e-mail confirmation from Seat UK. It basically said, regardless of any other approval (referencing the BSI Kitemark™ BS 10125). The garage needs to be Seat approved to retain any Seat warranty.

I presume for a garage to become Seat Approved it'll have to go through Seat's specific requirements, regardless of anything else.

So it's with the insurers now, fingers crossed they play ball and swap the garages. There is another Fix Auto which is Seat approved so I've suggested for ease to swap to this one, I'd personally prefer a dealer but at this stage I'm trying to make it easy to sort this mess out.
