-----------------------

SEAT press release of the MY2012 Leon FR and photos are below. No shots of the LED lights on though! No mention of different options (FR+?). From the photos, at least not all the FR branding inside has gone. Still got the steering wheel. Still feels a bit like a weakening of the brand to me. Can understand where they are coming from though.

Note: The 1.8TSI engine is not for UK release. Details are from the Barcelona motor show.

LEON FR
• New 1.4 TSI petrol engine for Leon FR
• New 1.8 TSI engine available with DSG gearbox option
• FR now equipped with diesel 103kW (140PS) TDI
• New LED rear lights on FR & Cupra R, as well as updated SEAT Media System

For 2011 Barcelona Motor Show, SEAT is presenting for the first an updated version of
its LEON in FR guise. A significant number of changes have been made to the FR offer
to reinforce the appeal of this popular sporty version of SEAT’s Leon.

Most notably, the Leon FR is now available for the first time with a 1.4 TSI petrol
engine which gives buyers looking for performance, responsiveness and frugality the
ideal choice. Thanks to its state of the art direct-injection and turbocharging
technology, it produces a lively 92kW (125PS) of power and 200Nm of torque. But,
this performance does not come at the expense of economy, with Co2 emissions of
just 145g/km on the combined cycle and combined fuel consumption of 6.2l/100km.

As well as the new 1.4 TSI engine, the petrol line up offer on Leon FR is updated to
include the company’s 1.8 TSI engine. Again, direct injection and turbocharging
technology are the key to its output of 118kW (160PS) and 250Nm. This engine
consumes just 6.6l/100km and emits just 159g/km. The 1.8 TSI is available as both a
traditional manual but also equipped with SEAT’s state-of-the-art 7-speed DSG dual
clutch gearbox.

On the diesel engine side, the FR range has been reinforced with the addition of
SEAT’s popular 2.0 TDI diesel engine, available with either DSG or manual gearboxes.
With outputs of 103kW (140PS) and 320Nm of torque – it’s clear why this version
merits the FR badge.

And, as well as a new engine options for the FR range, the car has been visually
updated thanks to the addition of LED rear lights – an addition which can also be
found on the ultimate model, the Cupra R. For the FR and Cupra R, there are three
additional colours: Furia Grey, Speed Blue and Tribu Yelllow.

Updates have also been made to the combined onboard navigation and SEAT Media
System. Bluetooth connectivity is now available with voice recognition, allowing even
safer usage while driving and audio options have been increased now that the system
can play Windows Media Audio files, while navigation updates can be made via SD
card.

The FR and Cupra R represent the brand’s excellent sporting credentials. SEAT drew
from knowledge gained on the race track, and has imbued both sports models with
the spirit of the two-times FIA World Touring Car Champion. From the outside, the
Cupra R cuts an impressive figure; while the interior has a look and feel that is one
hundred percent motorsport. With 195 kW (265 hp), the Cupra R boasts a 0 to 100
km/h acceleration figure of only 6.2 seconds – not to mention the average fuel
consumption of just 8.1 litres. The XDS electronic differential lock improves traction
and supports the car’s precision handling in every situation.

LED's do look ok a bit Golf GTi with LED rear's not sure if I would want to swap loosing the FR badges on the seats and dash for them though, always thought the badges on the Seats added a splash of colour. It is now just a Sport interior with an FR steering wheel.

The new gear lever does not look as good either. No mention of the new metallic artic white colour? Other colours are not new came with MY2011. All the pictures are of the FR + interestingly as well.

I think i prefer the rear lights as they are now....

Ive got a 170 CR with the Ibera's on so that looks pretty much the same as mine...except ive got track grey!

Think the seats look very dull now....much prefer the FR badges on them...And i prefer the current gear stick as well....

Wouldn't call it much of an improvement to be honest...glad i got mine 2 weeks ago!!

Will be interesting to see how these models are priced with the deletion of the Cupra from the range.

In my opinion, they should offer leather on the LCR as an option and reduce the list price to suit buy £1000 or whatever the seats cost as an option. Having the 19's as an option would make sense too as the car sits too high as standard on the 19's and they cost more for wheels and tyres, give a harder ride and are more prone to damage as well as being heavier than 18's.

I would be interested to see these LED lights at night to compare them with the non LED rear lights.

Looks like a good time to look at the Cupra! Do we think the FR will now be higher priced and with the engine options the 'new cupra'?

I must say after seeing this the last run Cupra will be a very sought after model!

Prices are:

FR + TSi £21619 DSG £21715
FR + TDi £21440 DSG £22615
FR TSi 122 £18205
FR TDi 140 £20245 DSG £21545

So the FR + is now about £1100 more than it was for 18" wheels, Xenon's and media pack. (FR TSi was £20535 and FR TDi £20370)

The FR 140 and 122 are about £600 more than the Sport model they replace but have the convenience pack now. I find it interesting that the FR TDi 140 is £1000 more than I paid for my FR TDi 170 back in October 2009. Shows how prices have gone up!!!!!

As a few have said shame to loose all the interior badging must be to saved cost's to pay for the LED tail lights or make the Cupra R seem more exclusive!!!!

Just noticed all the red stitching seems to of gone from the the gear lever gaiter and seats as well???

I think what you're seeing here is the wind down of Leon II reducing the engine sizes available for when Leon III comes out (in the future) it will probably not come with anything larger than a 1.6T

Cost increases is down to the weak £ vs Euro & VAT rise

Agree still quite a jump in 18 months though and shows how weak the pound is. The only engine they have dropped is the one in the Cupra. The forthcoming 1.6T is supposed to be very good and is due in the MK7 GTi as well. Hope we don't loose the Cupra though unless they have smaller engine/power in the FR and Cupra is where the FR is now

Shows how good the vat free offer was, as basic fr+ is still more than what I paid and I got more too.

Looks plain without the red stitching IMO

Ditto I paid £17345 for 18" wheels and bluetooth under VAT offer seems a real bargain now :D

Hi guys new to the forum don't currently have a Leon but have test drove the FR (diesel) and will be ordering one next week having seen the FR+ advertised plan to have one with the black/tan leather so will it come with the FR logo's on the seats as the picture on the website or have Seat deleted them now?

Nice choice, FR+ does not have logo's on the seats, gear lever or dash any more. Basically the FR+ has basically the same interior as the old Sport now but with the FR branded steering wheel and FR dogo cloth less SEAT badges if that helps. Your leather choice will be the same as the ones in the Sport.

thanks for that shame the logo's have gone but still a nice motor this will be a company car hence the diesel but the good thing is as we have a car ownership scheme I will own it but the company pay for it less a small contribution from me equal to BIK tax around £60 a month :)

I was looking at the FR with upgrade to 18" wheels Technology pack and leather interior but seeing as most of that is now in the FR+ will be a saving

I think we all feel it is a shame but is a good spec and all you loose is the front parking sensors out of the technology pack. Look forward to seeing the pics especially the new rear LED's rear lights switched on!!

Yes 12 weeks is the norm my MY11 FR TSI was built this week and should pick it up in just over 3 weeks so will be 12 weeks for me. About 4 weeks from actual build to delivery and 8 weeks wait for a build slot. Much better than the 4-6 months currently on the Golf at least or 8 months for a Skoda Yeti.
