Urgent help with non-Cupra door card removal

I'm currently butchering my car, to see if I can find out what's up with my speaker, and on a reconaissance mission to find out whether installing components is beyond me.

To take my door cards off, I've been following the very handy guides on Icecavern and here. However, both guides are geared towards the Cupra, which has electric mirrors.

My lowly mk3 does not, and so my door card (passenger side) is still swinging in the breeze, connected by the mirror adjuster, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to disconnect it.

Also, the bloody speaker thing is screwed in too tight and I've almost killed the screw now.

And it's raining.

:help:

look at the back of the adjuster, two clips the same colour as your door card holding it in.

use a flat head screwdriver to put in between the adjuster (big black plastic block) and the clips, use a bit of force and it will clip out.

i did this yesterday and was fine getting it out and in

On the left door card (on mine) there is some sort of regulator attatched as well, just unclip the electric block like you would any other

Cheers mate, I managed to sort that in the end using exactly the same method, I thought they were clips at first but they're so tough I thought any kind of pressure would snap them.

It wasn't all successful though, the thing that holds the speaker was screwed in so tight that 2 of the screws are now threadless, and the one that did come out I managed to snap the plastic surround.

Does anyone know how much the speaker holder costs as a part?

i had to fit adapters in the front of mine but its a cupra.. not sure about other models. Got them from one of the big internt audio people...

Standard parts might be best to phone the dealer though ?

didn't you have to buy adapters anyway to get aftermarkets in?

I wasn't installing new speakers today, just practising for the ones I ordered this afternoon. But I have bought adaptors anyway so it doesn't matter if I smash the f*ck out of the current one trying to get the screws that I've knackered out.

You're not wrong! I had no choice but to try and release those clips when I changed my manual adjustment mirror on my 1.4. I used a tiny bit of force and the clip wasn't even open when it snapped clean off!! I think the plastic must go brittle with age? Ended up gluing bits of plastic on the adjuster to pad it out and had to put a screw through the door card to hold the adjuster in place. Looks a bit of a mess as the screw slightly protrudes through the door card, but it is an old car so what the hell!
