Hi

just a quick question on the USB option.
Has anyone tried using a laptop hard drive fitted into an external usb housing.
You can pick up a 40gig hdd for about 40quid and axternal usb housing for 1.99 at amazon
I currently use one on my laptop as a storage device and it gets its power from the usb ports to run the hard disk , Does the usb option provide power to the device to charge an mp3 player up or do you need to recharge it ? If it does charge it up then it would provide power to hdd

As I'm getting a new company car soon just wondered if i should get the usb option installed coz 40 odd quid for 40 gig of music is quite good
Also , what info do you see in the display ? Do you get track name etc?

Cheers

could someone fill me in about the usb option please.

Can you just plug a usb memory stick in with mp3's and thats it?

Also can you use a phone connected via usb to read data off the phone memory card?

cheers

I suspect plugging memory sticks in containing MP3s will be ok, but I suspect you won't get the track names on the display - I know you certainly don't with the iPod option. As for pluuging in a phone via USB, it'd probably depend on whether the phone needs a driver for the memory card to be accessed or not.

However, I've not actually seen a Leon with a USB socket fitted (and wouldn't want to lose the AUX in socket to get it) so I can't say for certain.

Might be worth taking a memory stick full of MP3s into a dealer and seeing if you can play them ok....

I've got an 8gb memory stick in mine, works ok, a bit slow to load, sometimes goes awol, have to stop, remove stick, turn off engine, plug in, restart and all's well, just have to remember 6 folders only, but quite a few sub folders, as the headunit recognises it as a 6 disk cd autochanger, as for a hdd, I'd go for a freecom 250gb toughdrive, get a free 8gb pendrive for £129.99...

250Gb! - that'd be like 1,00000,0000 million miles* before you listened to each song ... once!

*might be a slight exaggeration - but cannot even think about how to do the math to work that one out (especially at this time of night!)
