Vag Com Has Stopped working.*** Now Sorted.***

Everytime I try to do anything with Vag Com I get the message, 'VAG COM Has Stopped Working' and the program closes. I'm using release 409-1 with Vista and yes, I'm using a pikey eBay cable but it connects ok when I do the Com port test. I'm new to this and could do with a bit of advice.

Bump. Would it help if I perhaps threw my laptop across the room and then maybe jumped on it?

Check that com ports matches, as some times when you insert the cable into a different usb port, windows reinstall a driver for it witha different com port number.

Com port matches, thats not the problem. The program just stops responding. I'd re-install it but it does'nt show up in my programs list to delete it (which is probably something to do with it).

I'm having the same problem mate. It worked when i used it for the first time a month or so ago, but now i just get the 'stopped working' message!

It's beginning to take away my will to live, this is the cable I'm using http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/USB-VAG-COM-V...ment?hash=item35a3f2a007&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 which appears to be working ok and I'm using a fully registered/activated version of Vag-Com 409.1-S. I have'nt been able to do anything with it yet though.

Just run the setup again! it should over write it.

To delete any version VAG-COM, all you do is delete the folder. We don't mess with the registry. Can't say what your eBay cable suppliers driver does however.

As to the program stopping, version 409 was never written to run under Vista and is not Vista compatible. If you are not running in XP compatibility mode, the program is not going to run correctly - if at all.

Then, there may be an issue with your cable that causes the program to stop.

All I can say, is that none of these problems ever happened with our interfaces. But then we were not running Vista in those days. Current versions of VCDS are fully Vista and Windows 7 compatible but they require genuine Ross-Tech interfaces.

Excellent. Now running in XP compatability mode as an Administrator and it works a treat with my cheapo cable. Woo Hoo! I must dig out my copy of ELSAWIN and try that.
