Hi all,

I recently upgraded from an ELM327 to a VAG Com cable, it was from ebay so im not expecting miracles but im expecting it to at least work! it installs ok, but whenever I test the 4 com ports it just says port not open and Interface not found.

Any idea why this might be?

Many thanks

Check what port the lead has been installed on, it is very rarely given a port below 4 by default. I always have to move the com port after I plug the lead in.

Well, it should definitely work on the Toledo 'cos mine does!! And the Polo is old enough as well.

I take it the ELM device has worked on both cars?

I could have sworn that 'interface not found' meant that the lead was connected but it wasn't being powered by the car. At some point I might actually go through the error messages and write down when they appear.

I could have sworn that 'interface not found' meant that the lead was connected but it wasn't being powered by the car.

That error can also mean that the driver is not installed properly. That would be my guess here. The driver install is the problem. The port status being ok does not clearly indicate that the USB/Serial drivers are working properly. My guess is the drivers are not completely compatible with the hardware.

What's the eBay vendor saying?

make sure that you have chosen the right port in VAGCOM and it should work.
with polo if its 1.4 engine you might set the cable speed lower. I had that problem few times with cars with that engine
