Hi!

I run Linux on my machines!
I understand that VAG-COM only runs reliably on Windows.

Has anyone here managed to install XP and VAG-COM onto a USB stick and get it all working?

Such that I could plug the USB into any laptop, boot it from USB "et voila!"

True - but the USB stick seems more appealing - it would be more portable

I could even leave the cable and stick in the car.
If I had problems away from, home (and laptop!) I'd only need to borrow a laptop.

USB stick, with the right mainboard drivers installed....

I might have a play this weekend with that

There is a Windows build on 'the internet' that can be run from a USB stick, so i know at least that is possible. I wouldn't see any reason why vagcom can't then run on top of that?

I don't think it would be as 'plug and play' as you might expect though, at the very least you'd have to set up the vagcom port each time you plugged it into a new laptop.

I was thinking about a similar thing for VDS Pro, with DOS instead of Windows. But I suspect that the lack of DOS support for USB would mean it coldn't get running, even if a RAM disk was used.

I started but got rapidly fed up with all the faff!

In the end I dual booted my laptop - way more easy - but less convenient for emergencies.

One day, maybe, I'll do it
