Vario heater/blower

Winter is upon us and waddaya know the heater and blower on 2001 vario tdi have decided to go on holiday. Both are controlled by switches on the radio lcd unit. has anyone experienced this problem before? Is there any way to bypass these controls to get the heater working at least.

have u checked the fuse?? stupid question maybe, but sometimes fogotten

Yeah, checked fuse and seems ok. Day off tomorrow so will investigate further. Deep joy. No garage and minus 2 here all day today! Just seen two brass monkeys asking to borrow a welding torch.

Checked all fuses and connections. Cant see anything amiss-no corroded contacts etc. Hot coolant getting to matrix. Does anyone know if argos sell hairdryers u can plug into the cigar lighter socket? Only way im gonna get the windows defrosted in the morning.

if not, and u get really stuck, buy an invertor,plugs into ur ciggy lighter and has a household plug socket, but make sure its a high wattage one,

have you been playing with the stereo at all???

Not been playing with it but it has been playing up. Switching itself on/off, no access to AM radio. I suspect heater problem may be to do with radio/lcd unit as a whole but am loathe to part with £90 + for a replacement (quoted this price recently from a breakers yard)! BTW i made up a temporary seal for the wiper arm aperture wqith some plumbers mate until i can source a proper replacement.

put a plastic bag over ur ecu too, for extra protection,

could be, ribbons normally break if theyve been bent a few times, so maybe ur headunit etc has been plated with/taken out a few times,

unless its just a common fault??

have you looked on ebay for a new unit?? or contact one of the chaps on here breaking ibizas???

I'll try that. Thanks again. Just getting to know the car. Cleaned pollen filter today- what a mess despite car having FSH (non seat) . Looks as if it was the original!!
