Hi all, been reading recently about a lot of Cupras being stolen. Started thinking about fitting a tracking device to the car. Does anyone have one fitted or has any recommendations at all? Had a google for trackers and there seems to be loads to choose from, some cheap some expensive. No idea where to start!

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

There is the 'tracker' company tracker:

http://www.tracker.co.uk/

they're really good, they come and install it (wont tell you where on the car they put it) and it really is fit and forget. They have different versions, the one I have you can login to the website and it will tell you where the car is, and show you jorneys etc. You can set up a zone and it will email and text to let you know when the car enters or leaves it. They also use a different kind of radio that cant be blocked if the car is in a shipping container or the like. The police also have receivers in their cars too, so can track the signal if it gets stolen.

Had an issue with mine and their support was brilliant too. Quite a high cost to get one fitted and activated, but you can add a life long subscription to it for the whole time you own the car, or do it annually

I had few, some cheap, some expensive, on my car and also bike, one is still for sale . They were pain in the , cost money as they were gsm based, sometimes they responded sometimes not, i lost patience with them, at the end the all can be shut down by any experienced thieves.

I dont have a curpa (yet!) but have been looking at creating my own using a raspberry pi or ardino and maybe a simple kill switch for my current leon mostly for learning things like that but it should help with my insurance

there is loads of tutorials online on how to do it if you feel like a challenge

Cheers Shaady, had a look at them, looks good but very expensive for anything other than the most basic one. Didn't realise they were so expensive plus an annual subscription!

Very true, I guess if they're determined and experienced enough, the car will be taken no matter what. Think I may go the cheaper option of Gap insurance and a visual deterrent of a steering wheel lock.

I still fit my old Disklok at night as needs a lot of noise and effort to remove (still the best steering lock you can buy) have cctv cams and security lighting on my drive and if it gets nicked with all that, and thrashed, I don't want it back so no tracker for me.

It won't be in that bad of a nick , mine goes through that everyday . I do understand though and it's like having a random guy dip into your missus and expect to take her back.

My friendly neighbour across the road has just put in two HD cameras overlooking his place and ours. This makes me extremely happy as my car is in perfect line of sight with one of the camera's.
