VW engine scandal - is it used in the MK5 Ibiza?

VW recently released a statement saying that their EA189 engine is the one affected by the emissions scandal.

Quick built of googling says that this engine is known as the CAYC in the Fabia - *can't post link as less than 15 posts :(* - in 103hp variant

Second bit of Googling lists the CAYC as the engine code for my MK5 Ibiza SC 1.6 TDI CR Sport - *can't post link as less than 15 posts :(* - in 105hp variant since 09

I can't directly connect the EA189 to my Ibiza, but this seems fairly suggestive. Are there any more Seat's likely to be affected?

Coincidentally, I was just thinking yesterday how I dislike the 1.6 cr in my Ibiza. I have at least 2 regens a week, despite commuting 40 miles each way, 28 of which is motorway.
The light hasn't come on but it's only a matter of time. I only use Esso or Shell diesel. A borrowed new Clio DCI proved a quieter and equally as nippy ride. I dislike the Clio but preferred its engine.
Torque delivery is adequate for the VW engine and economy at late 50s is average.
Sorry to go off topic but thought I'd share my observations about this engine whilst it is in the news.

I have a gutted DPF and software EGR delete and can't help but feel that some where down the line this issue will likely cause trouble for me and other in similar situations.

Can they make a recall a legal compulsory requirement?

Will the current MOT diesel emissions test and DPF inspection rules be tightened?

I guess its too early to know and time will tell.

It will also be interesting to see what solution VW will come up with to bring current cars in line to emissions standards and how that will affect the performance of the cars.

Report in El Pais saying the total number of affected Seat's is over half a million

"The Spanish subsidiary of the German group has installed over half a million of the tampered diesel engines into its vehicles since 2009," El Pais wrote citing unnamed sources with ties to the company.

I doubt they can tighten the rules because if you take your car for an MOT and it's doing a regen your emissions will be high and will fail.
(Well I think so haha)

They will probably force a recall and reflash the ecu's so that they run in permanant reduced emmisions mode. Failure to do so will then cause a MOT failure. Wouldn't be surprised if DPF's and EGR checks are made at MOT time too!

That's the list of cars which formed the original half million in California though, right?

The remaining 10.5m will be from a much wider list (Skoda, Seat etc.)

I'd think that what will come out of this will be a complete revision of the "periodic road vehicle testing system" - and it sounds like it will cost quite a bit to convert MOT centres to handle these new tests or the changes will get rolled out over a long period, probably just in time to see us mugs converting to electric vehicles!

As always, this branch of progress will earn some companies a lot of money - and you can be sure who will be paying for these changes many times over as it gets revised and revised and revised.

My 2014 CR is eligible. I hope that the reboot adds 25bhp and 40lbft and eliminates the DPF to better compete with Renault's 1.6...
