I picked up my VZ2 on the 8th of April and this weekend I decided to give it a proper detail. Hopefully someone will find this interesting :)

So the first thing to do was a give it a proper wash and then decon. I use Carpro reset as my wash and then Bilt Hamber Korrosol to remove iron fallout.

Luckily it wasn't too bad, but then it shouldn't be only being a week old. It's not always like that, my previous Audi ran red when I did the same. A quick wipe round with tar and glue remover and a final inspection saw that it didn't need claying which was nice. So it was on to the paint inspection.

So paint depth not too bad, it has a little inconsistency but I had thinner pain on my new BMW.

So I had around 40 or so microns of clear coat to play with, not a lot when you think an A4 sheet of paper is around 80 microns.

So some swirling and the odd deeper scratch here and there. Not good for a brand new car. :( The paint seemed pretty hard as it was taking some effort to polish out. I ended up settling on a lake country blue hdo and Scholl S20+ as a combination, most of the scratches came out but there's some I missed which is really annoying as I only saw them after I'd finished, luckily they're on the roof so shouldn't annoy me to much.

Much better after a full day of polishing and the Rupes polishers definitely had a work out. :)

And now for the results after a full day of coating with Gyeon Syncro Evo. It's the first time I'd used this and overall I was pretty happy with it. The MOHS part was easy and better than I've used previously. The Skin part was grabbier though and it went through a lot of applicators and cloths. :(

Wow! I didn't even know a coating thickness guage was a thing! Excellent work SK...puts my hose down, wash, rinse and chamois leather finish to shame!

Being an old bugger, SK, it's all I know. I have however, bought some self application ceramic spray, which I'll have a go at next weekend.
Be interested in your thoughts. I am still old school too - I like the Autoglym UHD wax

Curiously, Deano, the ceramic spray I bought is by Autoglym. I'll let you know how I get on. Serious question, though, how do the new young generation dry their motors?

I have moved from the trusty chamois to drying towels.
Can't bring myself to buy an oversized hairdryer for the job

Not sure about the youngsters, I'm in my fifties. :ROFLMAO:

One of the best wash mitts/pads I've tried is the CarPro Dab Dab - https://www.in2detailing.co.uk/products/carpro-dabdab-ultra-soft-wash-mitt?variant=39923325468751

For drying something like this - https://www.in2detailing.co.uk/coll...ibre-dual-twisted-pile-drying-towel-45-x-80cm - basically any Korean dual twist drying towel as they are amazing. You lay it down and pull it towards you and it'll leave the paintwork dry. No rubbing needed. Chuck it in the washing machine to clean it with something like woolite as the detergent. Only on its own or with other microfibre towels for the car though otherwise you'll ruin it. No more than 40c but 30c is usually fine. I've not tried this one by the way, I have proper Klin Korea ones but they are hard to get hold of lately.

If you'd prefer to pat dry then you need something fluffier. These are okay, if a little small, and are easier to get as Halfrauds have them https://www.halfords.com/motoring/c...44BRER97*MTY1MDMwNjI4NC4xLjEuMTY1MDMwNjI4NC4w

When drying I normally spritz a few sprays of - https://www.eurocarparts.com/p/sonax-xtreme-brilliant-shine-detailer-750ml-549992160 which aids to make the paintwork a little slicker so less likely to scratch and adds protection at the same time. This stuff is great and is usually unheard of outside of the detailing community. It can clog your towel though so make sure you wash them after using it. You'll love how the water just runs of your paintwork.

The oversized hair dryers are great for getting water out of the annoying bits and drying wheels, but a whole car would be a pain.

For the easy touch free option you need - https://www.vyair.com/en/0618-high-...life-resin-vessel-7-litre-capacity-black.html and resin. So you wash your car as normal and then do a final rise with this DI water for a spot free finish, no drying needed.

The most damage to you car paintwork happens during washing and drying stages so as much care as you can take here keeps it looking better for longer.

If you want to get serious in to this stuff have a look on www.detailingworld.co.uk but be prepared to waste a lot of hours. :ROFLMAO:

I don't have any connections with any of the above by the way I use about 4 different places for my stuff, so look out for discounts and order from the best places. In2detailing for example you can use asnet or dw10, cleanandshiny is also dw10, etc.

Looks great, although my new VZ3 came out pretty good at the local Tesco car wash

Not into serious detailing, but I can endorse Supa Koopa's recommendation of Sonax Brilliant Shine Detailer, which I've used for a few years now mainly 'cos it's a doddle to apply and gives a great finish.

:ROFLMAO: Although, shall we meet up in a year to see who's still looks the best after yours has had a year of Tesco's car washes.
Thankfully, I was only joking !! Had the car two weeks and had a bit of paint correction done and 5yr ceramic coating by Warrington Car Detailers. Much as I'll miss my Sunday carnauba sessions, ceramic coating looks amazing.

Can you imagine putting one of these through a roller auto car wash

:ROFLMAO: You did have me thinking what is this nutter on about.

Unfortunately people do exactly that. I did see one of the neighbours once brushing snow of his car with a yard brush, I nearly got out of the car to slap him. :ROFLMAO:

The Autoglym rapid ceramic spray was very easy to use, and it came with 2 fluffy handmitts and a small microfibre towel. Was very happy with the results. Gonna order one of those large drying towels for next time...
