Having completed an intermediate engine oil change today and adding 5.5 liters in (max on electronic sensor) , I wondered if anyone has fitted a physical dipstick to their EA888 Gen 4 Evo engine Formentor?
A brief search revealed one expensive option here.
The reason you don't have a physical dipstick is the oil level needs filling to correspond with the display in the infotainment. If you take the blank out and check the oil with a normal dipstick then you can end up overfilling the engine.
Tried it on a few engines now. The fill quantities have been reduced and filling to "MAX" can result in "oil level over full" warnings on the dash.
There are some members on VW Golf forums who’ve fitted a physical dipstick to their mk8.5 Golf’s - GTI’s and R’s - that also have the latest version of the 2.0 EA888 engine. I seem to remember they bought the dipstick from the parts department of the VW dealership.

Thanks @James_R .
So I can only assume that existing (possibly plastic sump) dipstick versions are just marked for that specific setup and the marks do not tally with the gen 4 evo engines and their metal sumps?
I guess, if I did get a dipstick and knew that my infotainment was on MAX but the dipstick was on the LOW, for example, I can still use it with that in mind. A future owner or service tech might trust it without knowing and overfill though.
Wonder if there is a dipstick that is gauged correctly? Would take a lot of time and patience and it sounds like you've tested a few and found none that show a true reading.

Cheers @SRGTD, I'll check out the VW Golf forums for some info but google or AI didn't link me to any posts, If I find any, I'll add the details to this thread.
The dipsticks from previous generation engines do fit, the aim with the infotainment display now is that the measurement is dynamic, I assume it's because of the push to use very thin oil grades (for emissions and economy reasons) that rise dramatically when hot (taking the level above that dipstick mark) or lower when cold (dropping below a level some people wouldn't be happy to live with when checked) so they top the oil up to the full mark on the dipstick then end up with the infamous "oil level over full" message on the dash.
