Just got home and could hear an awful noise from my rear drivers side speaker. My speaker has blown!

Could this be covered on the warranty of the car? I have not changed the stereo nor have I used any amps.

If not, It could be an excuse to upgrade.

When you say full volume, Im assuming you mean 30/30 for example. Because, regardless of settings, Anything over about 18 and its horribly distorted on mine. The speaker quality in general is much worse than my previous car.

I would think its covered ok. Although, (not that I know a lot about it), if you hooked your iPod up with its volume control set to max, and then turned the in-car volume to max, it might = a problem. Never let on though, just tell them the speaker is broke.

Anyone else noticed that it sounds like there's a compressor on the system? When it's turned up loud and there's particularly hard deep bass I can hear the mid and top get reduced in volume to cope with it.

oh yeah its shockingly bad speakers. I've replaced mine for some oem fit ones to handle a bit more sweetness but idealy i would like to replace the amp in the unit too.

quite cool the speakers can straight swap from another car but to buy them from said car firm would be close to a grand. lol

Should be a warranty job unless the dealer plays difficult and tries to say the speakers have been over-driven.

Like others have said the standard speakers are pretty pants (IMO the weak point of this car's audio system) and the sound does start to distort pretty early as volume increases. I'm thinking about doing like @Nutkin has and just swap-in some decent OEM-mount speakers. To be honest just can't be bothered at present as don't really listen to music in car much - just radio in the background. :)

What are these OEM speakers you speak of?

I used to want to replace the rears with subs. But the amount of rattles and creaks this car has is unbelievable.

Will an mdf adaptor ring need to be made to get other third party speakers to fit?

Cheers

Hope they're covered, my passenger rear has gone.
Can't see how they can claim over driven, it's only ever had the oem headunit through it. It's a design fault using an over powerful headunit at most! Lol

How do you know when your speaker is blown?

Mine's does a weird noise when playing music, maybe it's also blown? Or either the door card is comming off. I can't really tell if its the speaker or just the plastics.

:p

Play music at a medium volume (so it doesn't rattle anything) then use the fade and balance controls to move the music through each of the speakers individually and see if the one you thing is blown sounds markedly different/quieter/tinnier than the others.

Just booked mine in at my local stealers to have it changed on friday, there was no sudden intake of air, or "we can't do that under warranty" etc so looks good :)
